1 End of Life Andrea Lemus Philosophy Professor Tosh June 27, 2021 2 End of Life Death is treated differently by different communities. For most religious institutions, ending one’s life is a job left for the gods. The gods decide how long one will live. They have the power to decide when one should or should not die. On the other hand, some, especially those that believe in science possess a different understanding of death (Nath et al., 2021). Death is caused by natural causes such as poor health conditions. There have been several cases about the ‘end of life’ by qualified physicians to reduce the pain and suffering of patients. Some patients, especially those who are in critical conditions reach certain levels of pain and suffering and request doctors to end their lives (Wen, Goh & Yu, 2021). This practice is not welcome by all in societies. For instance, the Christian community perceives this to be ‘suicide’. Hence, it is a sin. The issue has brought about debates that have even extended to the legal punishments where individuals with serious crimes are executed through injection by poisonous substances that end their lives (van den Berg et al., 2021). The way different societies handle the issue makes ‘end of life’ a critical study topic. 3 References Nath, U., Regnard, C., Lee, M., Lloyd, K. A., & Wiblin, L. (2021).
