The need for a better life away from the damning and harsh life is a common motivation
to move to different countries. In time of war in particular, families look to move away from the
harsh conditions of war. Consequentially, moving to the United States was a huge relief and a
blessing in disguise. During the war, the dangers posed were immense. In particular, the
surmounting danger to the very existence of individuals necessitated the need to move away
from our hometown. In a single night, the rumbling ground from the bombs and the heavy war
machinery in patrol meant more sleepless nights. However, the risk of ending a promising future
to the young children to the ragging war meant there was need to move away.
The hope that when you move away from your mother country you are able to receive the
support necessary, from education for the children, economic support mechanism to irk out a
living, and a peaceful environment to rebuild oneself. There were many expectations while
seeking immigrant status in the United State. Many of them involved fulfilling the dreams of the
young children. Coming from a country where the social economic and political environment
does not allow, or rather provide effective mechanism for self-development, there was little
hope. In addition, the danger and the uncertainty of seeing a new day was a common thing to live
with. However, in a world that pride for freedom of self, then every individual, man, woman or

child has the right to life. Nobody, not those propagating the chronics of war have the right to
take away the lives of others for no apparent reason.
Before the war broke out, I lived a good life. Having completed my college education
studying biotechnology, I had some good work in the practice. However, it did not take long that
war broke out due to the political tension in the country. Then everything changed drastically
thereafter. Everything we knew was gone, and no longer lived the normal lives as we were used.
When the war slowed down, we applied for asylum in the United State. This was a long
and rigorous process, where we had to be vetted in all capacities. Ultimately, we were among the
lucky few who got immigrant visas to the US. It was such a lucky break for each one since we
had a chance to a new life. Living in rambles of war had each one of us living in fear. A night
would not go without the thought that it could be our last. The bullets flying in the air reminded
us that we had to stick together, pray to God that we make it through the day, and hope that in
the night it is not the last night. The new hope brought new expectation and new challenges all
together. Consequently, three significant events took place in terms of the language, education
and employment that defined our lives in the United States.
Significant event 1: Language
On arrival to the United States, our first major challenge was language. We were used to
our native language and had not hand the exposure to English as a second language. The regime
from the home country did not allow that we learn English, as they thought any foreign language
was not good for the people. Therefore, we had a translator at every other place we needed to
interact with other people who were not similar to us. It was a huge challenge to us and
especially the children. The difficulty in communication meant that neither of us would take up

any job to start being self-reliant just yet. Moreover, it was difficult for others to understand what
you needed without having a translator especially where we had to interact with citizens of our
new home.
Significant event 2: Education
The need to learn the new language meant each one of us had to start learning classes.
However, with my expertise in biotechnology, I was of great interest since I had adequate
knowledge in my practice. It meant that the children would not only go through the language
classes, but there after would take up full classes in the new country. It was an interesting change
of event. In the meantime, however, I also managed to be acquitted with the English language.
At the same time, I managed to apply the language to interpret biotechnology science as I needed
to start work soon enough. It all happened so fast that it almost seemed unreal at the beginning.
The Middle East is marred by political turmoil for the longest time possible. The event of
war currently within the country is highly due to political differences between powerful
opponents. It has highly defined the consistent lack of respect to human life. The current century,
world over, respect for human life is a paramount aspect of living. In the United States in
particular, the country has enjoyed long spells of political peace. Ultimately, it has seen an
increase in its economic might. There is certainly a huge difference between the two countries.
There was the expectation that when I got to the United States, there would be peace that there
are no competing parties, or individuals for power.
The political environment in the United States has been particularly instrumental in our
approval to come here. The ideals that country hold, and the fact that the people through the
government allow immigrants to seek asylum in the country is incredible. While we had a choice

to live as refugee within the neighboring country, the problem was that there was no guarantee
that the war would not get where we were. Moreover, with the political situation, it meant that
there was little hope for any education to help achieve the dreams of the young children. The
belief of the country, as I learnt in the United States, talks about protecting the children, mothers
and men who are productive to the society. In that ideology, it was an instrumental reason that,
the ideals and values that United States stands for, enabled our application to go th...
