Knowledge of the business
1.1

Business

Darzan, which operates through the domain www.darzan.sa, is a Saudi Arabian
company founded in Riyadh, with its significant operations being in its home country. Being
an ecommerce business, all of its operations are done online, with the founders aiming at
offering customers unique products used in packaging. Darzan boasts of quality service as a
company, with the fundamental aspects being affordable prices, efficient delivery, flexible
payment options, and quality customer service. From its founding, Darzan's business idea is
to create a reliable trading environment and offer the customers the best price ranges- what
Darzan calls wholesale price. From the wholesale idea, Darzan got its name Darzan which is
Arab for dozen, meaning a group of things, mostly twelve. The Darzan store is considered a
step forward by a Saudi engineer whose aim was to explore the ecommerce sector.
1.2

Business idea

From an engineer with a vision, Darzan aims at ensuring customers get access to
quality products at wholesale price, which, according to the definition by the founders, is a
flexible market. Darzan, typical of most ecommerce platforms, allows sellers to register and
thus acquire a market for their products. The ecommerce site offers memberships to both
clients and sellers, with each of the memberships offered having its advantages to the
membership holder. The company operates under three mantras; post-delivery guarantee,
exceptional quality, and competitive price. With the post-delivery guarantee, Darzan aims at
ensuring all its customers receive the products they order as in the description, which is also
an extension to the exceptional quality goal. With competitive prices, the company aims to
ensure that its customers receive quality products and affordable products. These features are
what the company considers part of its vision which is all about creating a flexible market.
The aspects in this are further enhanced by the vision statement, which reads, "Idea, passion

then goal," which in simple terms emphasizes on being passionate about what they do first
before meeting their operational goals.
1.3

Where is the money (Business and Revenue model)

As an ecommerce site, the Darzan business model is a consumer-to-consumer,
otherwise known as the C2C business model. The business here operates by allowing
consumers who are its sellers to sell goods to customers while at the same time connecting
customers to sellers. The C2C business model was initially an idea by eBay, with the
company aiming to connect its consumers to other consumers of its service. Most ecommerce
platforms like Amazon and Darzan also practice this business model and benefit from
offering an online market to consumers. The company charges its customer and business
owners transactional fees and listing fees to earn from the business. The revenue model
concurs with this as it is a sales revenue model where once sellers post their products, the
company displays, and after each sell, the company gets a share of the total price. The model
here is such that sellers are after reaching a broader market through the internet, which is
easier considering the limitations of a physical store.
1.4

Target Audience and Marketplace

Most of the products sold by Darzan are for packaging foodstuff and thus defining its
target audience as homes, otherwise, families that stock foods, fruits, water, etc. By
definition, this is almost every family in Saudi Arabia in that at a time, storing food becomes
a necessity citing the Coronavirus pandemic in 2020. The focus extends further to people
who shop in that it also sells carrier bags made from different materials, with all the products
being offered at affordable prices. These groups of shoppers are tagged "normal" given that
the products are not only accessed by a particular class of people or community but any
person living in Saudi Arabia a...
