SOC 333 Ashford University Week 3 Mixed Methods Approach Discussion
The abstract/introduction and purpose statement are important elements of a research study in that they advise the readers of your scholarly work what you intend to share with them, as well as the importance and context of your work. Similarly, the importance of a good research question or hypothesis cannot be overstated. It is integral to a research study and ensures the researcher is focused on a measurable target for the success of the research results. It also ensures that the research objective is clearly defined and that the target is specifically measureable. In your initial post, address the following:Critique the following abstract based on the five elements of an abstract as covered by the text. What elements are present, and what elements are missing?“Across the world, people are required, or want, to work until an increasingly old age. But how might prospective employers view job applicants who have skills and qualities that they associate with older adults? This article draws on social role theory, age stereotypes and research on hiring biases, and reports three studies using age‐diverse North American participants. These studies reveal that: (1) positive older age stereotype characteristics are viewed less favorably as criteria for job hire, (2) even when the job role is low‐status, a younger stereotype profile tends to be preferred, and (3) an older stereotype profile is only considered hirable when the role is explicitly cast as subordinate to that of a candidate with a younger age profile. Implications for age‐positive selection procedures and ways to reduce the impact of implicit age biases are discussed. (Abrams, Swift, & Drury, 2016, p. 105).”Describe the elements that constitute a good qualitative purpose statement.Describe the elements of a good quantitative purpose statement.Discuss the rationale for using a mixed methods approach.Explain how research questions and/or a hypothesis work in conjunction with the purpose statement.Your initial post should be at least 650 words in length. Support your claims with examples from the required material(s) and/or other scholarly resources, and properly cite any references.

RE: SOCW6111: Discussion 2: Developmental Stages The Case of Brady
Respond to at least two colleagues who identified a different case and provide feedback on the client’s stage of development. Identify another area that should be addressed, based on developmental stage. Support your responses with specific references to this week’s resources. Be sure to provide full APA citations for your references. I will send other post due this Thursday once someone else posts Response to Mary In the assessment of Brady and whether he has mastered the stage of identity within Eriksons fifth psychosocial development are somewhat complex. Brady has suffered an extreme loss, that of his mother. Brady’s father has also suffered this loss and is having an overwhelming hard time to understand his son Brady (Plummer, Makris, & Brocksen, 2014). Brady seems to be handling some of his grief by acting out, but has also lost the attachment of his father and in turn, has gained fear. Brady is experiencing below average intelligence and emotional functioning (Plummer, Makris, & Brocksen, 2014). Brady’s father, Steve, has also portrayed similar characteristics and becomes frustrated quickly and angry with Brady. According to author Berk, she states that “Adolescent identity formation begins a lifelong, dynamic process in which a change in either the individual or the context opens up the possibility of reformulating identity (Kunnen & Bosma, 2003). A wide variety of factors influence identity development (Berk, 2013). Within Erikson’s stages of development, the identity versus role confusion starts between the ages of twelve and eighteen years of age. Adolescence in this stage are yearning for a sense of self and personal identity through personal values and goals (McLeod, 2018). Brady has not yet achieved this “personal goal or value” in a sense to secure it as a personal identity yet. Brady is still struggling with other factors that have contributed to his frustration and lack of motivation. I would use the strength’s based approach with Brady and draw up a eco-map to better learn about his interest and dislikes. I would like to learn more about his relationships with family members, friends and his hobby life. From there we would build upon his interests and identify strength’s. I would then help him set goals for what interest him or what he feels good about involving himself in. We would also work on better, healthy relationships with his father. According to author Berk, she explains that teenagers identity is enhanced when families serve as a “secure base” (Berk, 2013). It is when the adolescent has this secure base that they will be better at widening their horizons and will have opportunity to voice their opinions (Berk, 2013). There is research based on effective instruction of students with physical- and health-related disabilities and content-specific teaching strategies that may be used.
