Expository writing refers to a writing mechanism which is used to describe, explain,
inform and give information to its audience. The writing is frequently organized along one topic
and created/designed according to a combination of patterns. While giving presenting an
expository text to an audience, the writer usually assumes that the listener has no prior
knowledge about the topic of discussion. Assumptions based on null knowledge of its listeners
forces the text writer to go deeper and dig the most vital information ready to present it or them
to its listeners or readers (Smith, 20013).
For an expository story to have a high impact on its listeners, the writer must possess
superior exposition skills. These skills don't just come that easy. One must have excellent
communications skills both presented through his verbal and non-verbal presentations to all kind
of listeners. Strong organization of an expository story makes it clear for the listeners to fully
follow the flow of the story and master every single bit of information they retrieve from the
descriptive text. A non-fiction writing is what best define an expository text. This implies that all
writers who are dreaming of becoming expository-text writers must make sure that their story is
real or based on real world experience and not on fictional or imaginational stories (Raudenbush,
2015).
There are various examples of expository texts which include; compare and contrast
texts, literary analysis, cause and effect texts, and reports. Unlike narrative texts, expository
