Description

My fellow classmate posted to the discussion board. I have to respond with 100 or more words. The original question that the discussion board is about is:

1. Briefly compare the French and the United States approaches to early child care. What are the costs of these two very different systems?

2. Countries vary in how they view child care, from preparation for school to a more nurturing, playful place. Which model do you think is best for society and why?

** I do not need the questions answered. I posted a picture below of a discussion I need to write a response for (100 words)*

Early Childcare France and the United States have different approaches to early childcare. France has a socialist society and the United States is a free enterprise market. France provides low-cost childcare, tax breaks, and pre-school is free for children starting at age 3. France funds 80% of childcare facilities for parents. They must register for these facilities early due to the high demand. Since they are state run, they offer a higher quality staff. The caregivers are certified in this field. In my opinion state run facilities are often held to higher standards and must meet exceptional standards. The United States offers state funded early childcare and pre-schools, but they are limited in funding. This leads to high costs even for low-income families. The cost of childcare in the US is often too high for some parents, forcing them into a single income household. In some cases, a parent is working a full-time job making enough just to pay for childcare. This can lead to a stressful home life. Childcare facilities in the US can be poorly run and the staff is underpaid. Some caregivers are not certified in the US Both countries have pre-schools that prepare and educate children for grade school. However, the United States does not emphasize early childhood programs. Pre-school programs are offered, but they are not affordable. If you do qualify to send your child, they may miss the opportunity due to the long waitlist. France encourages parents to send their child to pre-school and they fund it. I believe there should be a balance between preparation for grade school and a nurturing environment. Children can only learn so many things in one sitting. They need to be stimulated in a loving, happy environment in order to learn and develop. If you only focus on learning, the child will become bored and possibly disruptive. It needs to be balanced and interesting for the child.
