Database Backup
Basically, backup refers to a copy of data from the organizational or business database.
The backups can be divided into logical and physical backups. While logical data mainly
includes logical data including tables and stored procedures which could be exported from a
database using an oracle export utility then stored in a secondary file, for re-importing later into a
database by use of an oracle import utility. Physical backups on the other hand refer to backups
of physical files which are used to store and recover the database. The physical files include
datafiles, archived redo logs as well as control. Importantly, physical backups are the foundation
of most recovery and backup strategy,
The capability to restore databases from backups is vital for the continuity of any
business. Database backup refers to the process of protecting and backing up database software
to include the operational state, architecture as well as the stored data, The backup allows for the
making of duplicate instance or database copy incase primary database is corrupted, crashes or is
lost. Additionally, database backup presents a way of protecting and restoring the database. This
is performed by database replication which can be applied to a database or database server.
