Marks: 100 Instructions to Student  Answer all questions.  Deadline of submission: 18/08/2021 till 23:59 PM.  The marks received on the assignment will be scaled down to the actual weightage of the assignment which is 50 marks  Formative feedback on the complete assignment draft will be provided if the draft is submitted at least 10 days before the final submission date.  Feedback after final evaluation will be provided by Week 5. Module Learning Outcomes The following LOs are achieved by the student by completing the assignment successfully 1) Critically evaluate and use computer software to analyses statically determinate and indeterminate beams and frames Assignment Objective Analyze statically determinate and indeterminate structures. Verify theoretical result with the experimental results. Assignment Tasks Task 1: Work Proposal for Assignment (5 % Marks) Submit a work proposal for this assignment on or before Week 2 (23:59) which must include: The student needs to study the assignment and submit a work proposal through Moodle submission link within one week of releasing the assignment covering the following: 1. Initial understanding of tasks: (300 words - 50 marks) Explain the initial understanding and objectives of each of the assignment task, an initial solution or its outline in formative state would be helpful, though not necessary. 2. Moreover, if the work is assigned to a group of students, the proposal should contain the work breakdown associated with time line between the team members. 3. Resources: (at least 5 resources - 20 marks) A list of various sources that need to be consulted in order to solve various assignment tasks such as books, websites, research papers/journals, videos or learning materials such as lecture discussions, software and Hardware equipment. This could an initial list, but can be elaborated and expanded in the final work. Task 2: Pre-class Activities (10% marks) Student are required to regularly complete pre-class and post-class activities of every week before and after the class without fail. Your engagement with these activities will be considered and calculated cumulatively, to award the respective marks of this section. Task 3 Each student is required to write an extensive laboratory report from the software (Autodesk ROBOT Structural Analysis Professional) and theory-based results. The report must include following three tasks: (85% Marks) a. Deflection of simply supported beam. b. Reactions and fixing moment of a fixed beam and propped cantilever beam. c. Reactions and support reactions of frames. Note:-For each student, individual data’s are provided in the excel sheet. Rules & Regulations: All resources should be cited using CU Harvard style.  The final assignment must have a Title page, Table of Contents, References/ bibliography using CU Harvard Style and page numbers.  Title Page must have Assignment Name, Module name, Session, your name, ID, and the name of the faculty.  Softcopy in word format is to be submitted through Turnitin link on Moodle. In other words, you are justifying why your work is an essential component of the module you are taking (Structural Mechanics 2, CIVL 0013). The introduction is written with the view of introducing the topic of your coursework and setting it into a broad context, gradually narrowing down to your learning outcomes. Also, you need to write general concepts on your understanding of the different types of beams, deflection concepts using double integration method with citations. You may also state what type of approach you will be using in your paper for the entire discussion of your topic. 4) ANALYSIS AND RESULTS (1100 words) This section analysis covers the data collection (from the excel sheet and as well as from codebooks), analysis methods, mathematical models, and calculations. Critically evaluate the study with all the steps in detail and drawings/figures wherever necessary. Task 3 a. Deflection for Simply supported beam for different cases:-Kindly provide the results (experimental and theoretical results) in the tabular format. Show one example for each case i.e manual calculation for the deflection. Also need to derive the deflection equation for the point load acting on the mid span of a simply supported beam. b. Reactions and fixing moment of a fixed beam and propped cantilever beam: - Kindly provide the results (experimental and theoretical results) in the tabular format. Show one example for each case i.e manual calculation for the reaction, moments and deflection. Also need to derive the reactions, moment and deflection equations for the both supports fixed beam condition c. Reactions and support reactions of frames: - Kindly show the results from the Robot Structural Analysis software. This task must include the following 1. Draw Bending Moment Diagram mentioning the maximum values 2. Draw Shear Force Diagram mentioning the maximum values 3. Draw Deflection mentioning the maximum values. 4. What are the reactions at each support? Mentioning support experiences the maximum reactions 5. If the cross section dimensions have been flipped between HL & VL members, observe the possible change in Deflection & B.M.D and state the reason(s). Note: - For more information kindly refer the excel sheet. 5) DISCUSSION (200 words) The purpose of a results section is to present and illustrate your findings. Make this section a completely objective report of the results. The significance of findings should be clearly described. 6) CONCLUSION (200 words) In academic writing, a well-crafted conclusion can provide the final word on the value of your analysis, research, or paper. Complete your conclusions with conviction! Consider the conclusion from the reader's perspective. At the end of a paper, a reader wants to know how to benefit from the work you accomplished in your paper. Include the following in your conclusion.  How do the ideas in your report connect to what we have discussed in class, or to what scholars have written in their treatment of your topic?  What new ideas have you added to the conversation? What ideas do you critique?  What are the limitations of your data, methods, or results?  What are the consequences of the strongest idea that comes out of your report? 7) References (minimum 5 references) Write the list of all the sources of information you have consulted incorporated in the report following the right format of listing them using the CU Harvard style referencing format of listing. All references listed can come from websites, journals, reference books magazines and etc. Guidelines:  Assignment must be computer typed.  Font - Times New Roman  Font – Style - Regular  Font - Size - 12  Heading should be with Font Size 14, Bold, Capital and Underline.  Explain with suitable diagrams wherever required. Diagrams must be drawn using suitable software or by pencil.
