Where did the origins of the word Chartism come from?

Chartism was a working-class movement for political reform in Britain which existed from 1838 to 1858. It took its name from the peoples charter of 1838 and was a national protest movement, with particular strongholds of support in the north of England, the east Midlands, and south Wales.
