  Average rate of change from 1 to 2 = (480-300)/(2-1) =180

  Average rate of change from 2 to 3 = (600-480)/(3-2) =120

  Average rate of change from 3 to 4 = (700-600)/(4-3) =180

The average rate of change decreases. Sales show a diminishing return. It does not imply the more you advertise, the more sales will be.
