Relation with art and religion questions
1. Geometry in Religion Just about every temple, church, place of worship and most religious art in general is symmetrical. Some art is composed of geometric designs. Why the geometry and symmetry in religious art?2.Graven Images As stated in the text, many religions do not have images of God or any holy person. Instead, in religions such as Islam and in Protestant Christianity, places of worship are adorned with decorative, abstract patterns. Does the lack of religious icons take away from the spiritual experience? Why do you think some religions would steer away from this?3.Temple Design Mark Rothko designed a chapel in Houston, Texas that incorporated his color field paintings. This chapel was non-denominational, meant for any one to be able to worship in their own way. Notre Dame du Haut is located near Ronchamp, France sitting on a hill that has been a site for pilgrims wanting to see miracles since the thirteenth century. In WWII, the original structure was destroyed. Le Corbusier began this project in 1950. The site continues to draw pilgrims on important feast days, such as Feast of the Assumption of Mary on August 15 and the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Feast Day on September 8. Le Corbusier’s church does not have the typical basilica look of a Catholic church. How are these modern (abstract) sites effective for contemporary audiences? The physical experience of both sites is radically diferent from traditional space. Are they interesting because tehy are anomolies, or is there something inherent in their design that is appealing? Do you think they predict futre sites of worship? have they affected contemporary worship design?4.Pilgrims Progress In most religions, believers travel to holy spots as destination points. For example, Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales is a collection of pilgrimage tales, namely to visit Canterbury Cathedral to visit the relics of Saint Thomas Becket. A pilgrimage destination for Muslims is to Mecca. For Jews and Christians, a destination is Jerusalem. In today’s pop culture, Americans and other fans make pilgrimages to places like Graceland to honor Elvis. Have you ever taken a pilgrimage to journey somewhere special or holy? If not, where would you like to go if you could? How would this be related to art as studied in this class? What are the aesthetic experiences?5.Place of Worship Evaluate your place of worship or select a new place of worship to visit. Evaluate on the following criteria as listed in the Chapter. Does it shelter a congregation? Does it house sacred objects? Does it incorporate elements of nature? Does it provide sites for repeated religious celebrations? Does it incorporate symbolic geometry in the design or location? Does it incorporate the concept of journey? Or does it provide a destination for pilgrims? Expand on each of these points.6.Places of Worship Compare the designs for temple complexes and large scale, sacred architecture. Compare and contrast two or more of thefollwoing: the Egyptian Horus Temple, the Greek Acropolis, the Gothic Chartres Cathedral, the pre-Aztec Pyramid of the Sun, the Buddhist Altar of Heavan, The Hindu Kandary Mahadeva Temple, and the Islamic Masjid-I-Shah mosque. Points for comparison include the design, the size, the visual aesthetic, the design, symbols that may be used, the purpose of each, and the location alignment

University of Phoenix Showing Emotions in The Workplace Discussion
2 discussion post responses:Reply to at least 2 of your classmates. Be constructive and professional in your responses.TOPIC:Are showing emotions good or bad in the workplace? Do you ever hide your emotions in this setting? How can expressing emotion motivate someone? Provide an example from your experience. How is fear important for survival? Do you believe this is healthy in the modern workplace? First post to respond to:Auriel N. Echols2 hours ago, at 8:52 AM NEWGood morning class and Dr. Rawls,Are showing emotions good or bad in the workplace? We are all humans, so sometimes it can be hard to hide our feelings even at work, however, a line should be drawn if the emotions are irrational or if they occur too often. Some people may cry at work due to being happy from maybe a promotion or something, but if a person is crying for other reasons, I find it to be unprofessional. Most organizations need staff members who can do their tasks and if the employee is constantly crying then they are unable to complete the task at hand. Other emotions like anger and frustrations are also not acceptable and very unprofessional at work. You should be able to control your emotions when you are working. It is best to avoid intense expressions of emotions at work, especially while around other coworkers. I am the type of person who hide their emotions while at work even. If I feel like I need to let off some steam, I would go to my car to breathe and gather my thoughts, even when I feel like crying, but once I get home I just let it all out. Work can have a lot of stress on an individual especially if they feel as if they are not getting anywhere, that’s why it’s important to make sure you set goals for yourself so you won’t become overwhelmed. How can expressing emotion motivate someone? Emotions can motivate a person to act. For example, when I important tests to take I get anxiety because I am not sure how well I will do on it. So, what I do is I motivate myself to study even harder, take notes, and encourage myself that I can do it. How is fear important for survival? Fear triggers an alarm inside an individual, it can force you to act and it can help you with your decision making. If you did not fear, then you cannot be aware of the threats that surround you. ReferenceEdwards, B. (2018). Employee wellbeing: Is it ever OK to show emotion at work?. https://www.personneltoday.com/hr/employee-wellbei...Second post to respond to:Helen Davis2 hours ago, at 8:28 AM NEWI don't believe that "hiding" your emotions is a healthy thing to do in any situation especially at work. I do however believe in controlling your emotions. It's important to be able to gauge a situation and the other individuals in the situation to know when it is appropriate to show certain emotions and how to display them. Anger, disappointment and frustration are top emotions that should be kept in check to remain professional. Sometimes these emotions are fleeting and if you let them run free, then it can burn bridges or hurt relationships that will cause you damage professionally. Think before you speak is a good rule of thumb. However, this being said, sometimes expressing your emotions in the right way, tone, and body language can be used to motivate others. As a supervisor, if my team isn't meeting performance standards, I may need to express my disappointment. Not in a way that belittles my team, but in a way that shows them I know they are capable of better work and believe in their abilities on the job. On the other side of this, if they are doing a great job, I should show my emotions of being happy with their ability.
