Christian Perspective of Spirituality and Ethics in Contrast to Postmodernism Relativism
Christians observe God in the context of the Holy Trinity. This means that they consider
that God is the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit. Moreover, Christians believe that God is the
creator of the universe and sustainer of everything present on earth (Peltonen, 2017). As such, if
Christians notice that they have sinned or disobeyed the teachings in the Ten Commandments,
they normally repent given that they are aware that God is the source of everything. Christians
also perceive that if they go against the Supreme Being’s will, they can be exposed to
punishment such as death or become prevented from entering God's kingdom. From the nursing
perspective, God's love is displayed in the whole person. That is, patients should never be
observed in the context of non-living objects. Instead, they should be accorded respect since they
were made in the image and likeness of God.
In contrast, postmodernism relativism rejects global spiritual and moral values as well as
recognizes the dependence of entire values in all areas. Thus, no particular value preference or
truth is considered to exist (Forghani, Keshtiaray & Yousefy, 2015). One argument connected to
postmodernism relativism is what should be considered to be morally wrong and right. For
instance, abortion is a more subjective aspect and requires to be picked as wrong or right. In such
a case, the unborn child is perceived to be equal to other living organisms or even non-living
ones. Hence, whatever can be done to the unborn child can further be done for humanity. As
such, it has been difficult to apply postmodern relativism in the healthcare setting.
Scientism and Arguments
Scientism is the perception that the entire present mystery will finally be solved using
scientific methods. This belief in science displays that science dominates all other disciplines and

should be used to understand the universe (Stenmark, 2018). That is, efforts are made in a bid for
extending scientific principles, methods to matters of human concern. In biology, a subcategory
of scientism is known as evolutionism, an idea that biological questions such as the origin of
humanity can be explained using the Darwinian theory of evolution. However, in a region in
which pure technocracy is embraced, scientism is the belief that technical and scientific elites
should dominate the world relying upon their evaluation of empirical evidence. Scientism also
considers that ancient Greek philosophy and Judeo- Christian scripture should never be used to
understand the events in the world. The origin of scientism can be traced back to the early
seventeenth century, Europe, a period whic...
