Hi, can someone walkd me through this question: a 10 g bullet is fired at 550m/s into a 4.0kg block that sits at the edge of a 50-cm-high table. The bullet embeds itself in the block and carries it off the table. How far from the point directly below the table's edge does the block land?

DATA : -

m = 10 g = 10 * 10^-3 kg = 10^-2 = 1 / 100 = 0.001 kg

M = 4 kg

v = 550 m/s

h = 50 cm = 50/100 m = 0.5 m

SOLUTION : -

m * v = (m + M) * V, 

V = m•v/(m+M) 

= 10^-2 * 550 / (10^-2 + 4) = 

= 0.14 m/s. 

h = g * t^2 / 2 

t = √(2 * h / g) 

= √(2 * 0.5 /9.8)

= 0.32 s, 

D = V * t

= 0.14 * 0.32

= 0.0448 m.
