Chronic Kidney Disease
Introduction
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) or simply chronic renal disease (CRD) refers to a long
term kidney disease where the kidney progressively loses its efficiency in functionality (U.S.
Department of Health and Human Services). This failure then lead to accumulation of wastes
in the body leading to many other opportunistic diseases. This disease is common among
individuals with diabetes and high blood pressure or hereditary cases of CKD. This condition
has been found to cause other diseases including pericarditis, anaemia, weak bones, nerve
damage, renal osteodystrophy or cardiovascular diseases (Daugirdas 23). As such, this
disease is dangerous and requires strategic measures to manage and treat it.
This disease is very common and it is estimated that 26 million Americans have it,
while many other millions of individuals are at high risks of getting it. Its early detection and
management is a key strategy of dealing with it (U.S. Department of Health and Human
Services). The major cause of this problem is previous history of kidney disease or other
