There are different emerging trends in today’s business world and globalization
is the most dominant trend in this context. Likewise, the diversity of workforce is
another trend which is worth mentioning. Changing skills requirement is yet another
trend which is recent, but has far reaching implications for business world. Due to the
fact that businesses are not confined to the countries where they originally are started
and increasing number of businesses is expanding geographically thus enhancing the
need to understand the business in global perspective. The globalization is also
resulting in the recruitment of diverse workforce which has unique attributes and their
own cultural backgrounds, and it is essential to be aware of the cultural diversity to
create harmony among business units and processes. Further, due to increasing
complexities in the business world and changing preferences of consumers very fast,
the skills required for workforce to successfully operate are also changing dramatically.
(Joshi, 2009)

These emerging and recent trends will dramatically impact in the consumer
goods sector. The extension of business globally draws the attention of the leaders to
understand the respective cultures thoroughly and how the buying patterns of respective
nations especially for consumer goods are changed due to certain aspect, the need to

adjust the diverse workforce in different work settings is also of central importance for
ethical and smooth functioning of the businesses. (Harvey, 2012) Drawing different
strategies and having critical thinking skills are also supremely important for business
managers and workforce to outperform the competition.

Duties and responsibilities of HR specialists have got magnified due to these
changing trends, for the HR managers and specialists have to hire, recruit and train the
work force which can succeed in global environment. Similarly, HR managers have to
be very keen in developing awareness regarding different cultures and how to train
workforce which respects the individual differences. Lastly, HR managers in this
changed environment have to be focus on developing critical thinking skills as bias and
self reference criterion are a huge hurdle in making unbiased and effective decisions.

The contributions made by HR managers and leadership in this context are
invaluable. The global organizations have their HR specialists who develop their
workforce along these lines. For instance, coca cola hires its CEOs in different
countries who are well aware of the native cultures. This also enables the HR
management of respective countries to develop workforce which is well aware of ethics
and cultures to perform well. Likewise, HR management works on the critical thinking
skills by working through RED model. (Deslandes, 2014)
