Do also see the Feedback Sheet Attached to this assignment!!! (Please also refer to the rubrics for grading, as written on the syllabus) PLEASE NOTE: Although I expect your speech/outline to contain everything as written in both the Outline Guideline Sheet and everything written in the "It's Your Choice" Persuaive Speech Assignment as a part of your grade, please note the following specific penalties below: *Inappropriate presentation slides will not count and you will be deducted One (1) point for each inappropriate slide from your final speech grade. NOTE: Speeches/Outlines that include topics (whether it be your overall topic or information found in a main point) such as drugs, alcohol, sexual misconduct, or anything illegal will receive ZERO points for the assignment. However, you may discuss this only if it seems appropriate to the classroom setting. Please see me if you are in question as to whether or not your speech/outline information is appropriate. Persuasive Speeches -Lecture Note Guide Sheet Persuasive Speeches-What are we trying to do? Our speeches will be a "proposition of policy" therefore in the most simplest of terms, you are telling the audience why you should (not)" be doing something, thinking something, understanding something a certain way... ***However, we have the freedom to use other words choices....Never, Necessary, Must, Must Always, Have to etc......... * We may not expect to fully change minds, but hopefully the audience will begin to understand things differently * Some speeches are simply motivational. I.e. "Why you should drink 8 glasses of water a day". No need to convince me to drink water, but trying to motivate me into drinking the proper amount for optimal health ......... First let's review the format we will be using for our prepared speeches...... Introduction: Full Sentence Form Thesis: Full Sentence Form Preview: Full Sentence Form Main Points (utilizing proper outlining) Conclusion: Full Sentence Form Let's discuss some changes that will occur in our persuasive speeches!!!! Introduction: Stronger evidence, fact, statistic, quote........ Thesis: Should (not), Never, Must Always........ Preview: Same Main Points: Each main point must support what you are persuading us to do, think, understand..... Conclusion: Stronger Conclusion, urge, highly encourage............. Why Young Children Should Watch Educational Programs Introduction: How many of us watched Sesame Street or Mr. Roger's Neighborhood when we were children? How many of us are aware that by watching these programs it creates a higher chance that a child will graduate from college?
