Description

Create a project schedule and budget.

Use the following guidelines to complete your assignment:

  • Project scope: Refine the project scope statements from the scope statement in the charter from Week 1.
  • Develop a work breakdown structure (WBS) from the refined scope statement.
  • Project schedule: Using Microsoft® Project and the WBS you developed above, create a schedule for your project's lifecycle. Include specific tasks and milestones, with time and resource estimates, to meet organizational objectives in 350 words.
  • Project budget: Using Microsoft® Excel® and the project schedule, WBS, and scope statement, create a time-phased budget containing cost estimates. Include direct and indirect costs for labor, machinery, equipment, supplies, and other elements applicable to the project.

1 Project Management: Project Charter Zackaria Palmer PM/589 University of Phoenix John Quesnel 8/23/2021 2 Project Charter: A Training Program for the Project Management Team Narrative Project Description Generally, the project is outsourced from Acme Corporation. According to the PMI® report, it is estimated that nearly $122 million is wasted for every US$1 billion spent (12.2%) when projects are poorly managed (Herman & Siegelaub, 2009). The project charter entails training the project management team (PMT) to have the critical skills and knowledge required to manage projects successfully. Also, the project's goal is to training PMT within the corporation to manage projects effectively and helps the firm to save more and reinvest in the organization's future development. Thus, the training program will effectively enhance the project management practices of the corporation. Furthermore, the project manager requires a professional project management team that can assist in managing projects to save costs and reinvest them into the firm's future developments (Mantel et al., 2011). In terms of the external task, the training program will ensure the firm saves more. In terms of the internal project, the program will make the team more professional in managing the corporation's projects. In this case, the training program assists in implementing plans to assist firms in saving costs and reinvest them in future developments. Also, clients will be able to receive professional management teams, particularly project managers, that will ensure projects are managed under the specific laid plan in terms of budget, scope, and deliverables. The stakeholders are generally reluctant to invest in such projects, which can interfere with the project's success (Herman & Siegelaub, 2009). 3 Problem and Result Statement According to Herman & Siegelaub (2009), it is reported that when the project management team does not adequately manage projects, corporations are likely to face a loss of about 12.2 percent of their investment, which means approximately US$122 million is wasted for every US$ 1 billion. The corporation's project management is currently not correctly function, and its annual expense for the project is about US$ 3 million. If the firm takes any project, it is likely to suffer a loss of US$350 if it is poorly managed (Larson & Gray, 2018). However, if the project is implemented, it will help the project team build their skills in managing the critical tasks of the projects. Also, it will make the project team effective and efficient in project-related work. If the savings are done in the first year, the project will be a boom for the company and increase the company's profit in the long run. Mission Justification To manage the wastage of the investment and make the project team professional work to complete the project successfully and save cost (Larson & Gray, 2011). Project Scope Statement The project charter entails training the project management team (PMT) to have the critical skills and knowledge required to manage projects successfully. Also, the project's goal is to training PMT within the corporation to manage projects effectively and helps the firm to save more and reinvest in the organization's future development. It is reported that the training program will help the firm to reduce waste of investment. It is assumed that there will be 4 savings of 3% and 4.5% savings for next year. Also, the major constraint is that there should be backup available for the members who will be attending the training. Major Deliverables The primary deliverables of the project include: The training design that outlines how the training program will be conducted The training curriculum is an outline of the proposed training program High-level milestones Training materials and plan Therefore, the primary deliverable was to improve its competitive edge and strengthen the business capabilities. High-level Milestones for Significant Events In the table, the high-level milestone and timeframe for the project are listed below: Milestones Time frame 1) Project planned 23/8/21 2) Project authorized to 11/9/21 proceed 5 3) Training started 13/10/21 4) Resources allocation 17/11/21 5) Feedback 09/12/21 6) Closure 9/1/22 Applicable Technical Requirements, Assumptions, or Constraints Assumptions of the project are: • According to the project manager, the initial investment for the training program is 175000 USD. For the first-year corporation will be investing 300000 USD and 350000 USD for next year. In the first year, it is assumed that there will be 3% and 4.5% savings for next year (Herman & Siegelaub, 2009). The Limitations of the plan are as ensues: • Immediate implementation is needed • Staff location and time is limited • There should be backup available for the members who will be attending the training. (Larson & Gray, 2018). 6 References Herman, B. & Siegelaub, J. M. (2009). Is this worth the effort? The need for a business case.
