Find an equation of the line that passes through the point (53) and is perpendicular to the line

2x + 7y − 6 = 0.
Jan 22nd, 2015

2x + 7y − 6 = 0

7y=6-2x

y=6/7-2/7 x

Assuming the slope of a line that is perpendicular to the line above is m

Then m*(-2/7)=-1

          m=-1*(-7/2)=7/2

So the equation of the line we are looking for can be written as y=7/2 x+b

Input (5,3) to the equation

3=7/2*5+b

b=3-35/2=-29/2

So the equation of the line is y=7/2 x-29/2
