My interest in teenagers is to observe their behavior patterns when they visit fast food
joints. The need for observation of different teenage behavior patterns led me to carry out an
observatory session for four hours in Orlando, Florida. My observation was at a Kentucky Fried
Chicken (KFC) restaurant in Orlando. The observation took four hours which was sufficient for
the collection of data. I conducted the observation on a Saturday afternoon when it was
convenient for most school-going teenagers to hang out with their friends. The observation over
the four hours allowed me to collect data from the teenagers concerning the current trends and
what most teenagers considered ‘cool.’
Teenagers have a unique behavior that involves the blind following of trends. In the
observation, I had established five trends that I wished to confirm and find out how widespread
they were. The first notable trend was the movement in groups, especially when visiting
restaurants and entertainment places. The need to identify with a social group is evident in most
teenagers. It is also observable that most teenagers do not visit fast food joints on their own. It is,
actually, a trend that the liking for fast food is triggered by the group psychology and the need to
