Topographic maps
Topographic maps are maps that show elevation, which is the height above the sea level, and
help us study the shape of land using contour lines. These lines are also called isolines.
The features of topographic maps include contour interval, which is the difference between each
pair of elevation represented in different units like feet, meters, etc., index contour lines, which
are dark contour lines which are labeled on a topographic map, and compass rose, which directs
us towards the north direction at a point.
Few rules to remember while studying a topographic map are: If the contour lines are closer, the
