Select a conversation in which the other person wanted to talk about something that was troubling him or her. As you replay this conversation in your mind, think about how well you did in terms of empathic listening.

Develop a 1,050-word analysis including:

  • Explain whether you found yourself being critical when the person really just needed someone to listen.
  • Identify whether you let the person know, by your words or actions, you cared about his or her dilemma, even if you were not able to help in any other way.

Introduction
Listening is the act of paying attention with one's ears by attending carefully with the aim
of hearing what some else is telling you. Listening can be categorized into three broad categories
which are complicated effective, cognition and behavioral aspects. Complex effective is the
motivation one has to attend to other people’s matters; cognition refers to the process of
accepting to remain attentive, understand, receive and interpret relational communications. On
the other hand, the behavioral aspect involves giving response through the use of either verbal or
non-verbal technique. Listening is of crucial importance in ensuring that the process of
communication is efficient. It also assists in the collection of information, problem-solving,
sharing of experiences and persuasion and dissuasion.

Empathic listening is one of the most effective ways of listening and giving the response
to the other party by giving full conscious hear and comprehend the message passed across.
