The supportive style is a style of leadership which is found in the path-goal theory developed by Robert House (Brauckmann & Pashiardis, 2011). One thing that makes supportive to be my strongest style is the way I attempt to reduce stress and frustrations with everyone. For example, every time a decision has to be made I always ensure that the whole team comes together to a round table. Influencing which is my weakest style shows that I am relatively weak in influencing as compared to the other four styles. However, based on the score obtained from AMA DISC SurveyTM, this style is still high compared to other people who undertook this survey. Influence is an essential skill in management within the highly collaborative organizations. I relatively influence people even those who are not under my supervision in order to achieve my objectives. According to Rothaermel (2015), success depends highly on the effective influence of the people whom one supervises as well as everyone around. My profile is balanced and only shows slight variations on the four different styles that are descriptive of me. Although supportive style stands out more than the others, all these styles characterize me. According to the survey; to a higher extent, I am contemplative. These shows how rational, attentive and precise I am. Additionally, by striving for perfection and being extra cautious has shaped the overall balanced style. Directing which is the third ranked style that is descriptive of me shows that I provide instructions and clearly define roles that followers have to work on. I closely monitor what is happening with followers. However, unlike directing leaders, I do not make decisions on my own but consult the followers before arriving at a decision. PERSONAL STYLES ANALYSIS 3 I have recognized and integrated inner poles in me to focus on personal development and have learned the art of stepping out of my comfort zone. I am open, collaborative but sometimes this has led to being vulnerable. I tend to be emotion sometimes and make connections easily. I also seek clarifications and I am not the last result or solution for everything; I don’t have all answers. I have excellent communication skills. Authenticity and commitment make sure that I put people first, inspire development and ensure that there is pleasure in what people do at work. How I Developed These Styles I have developed a balanced leadership style by focusing highly on self-development. This includes personal insights in evaluating both strengths and weaknesses. I focus on development needs and take up an ideal path to self-discovery. This involves designing of my own path and coming up with coaching skills that guide team members in advancing their professional careers. Another crucial aspect which has helped me to develop these styles is by creating a stimulating awareness which is a key factor in nurturing a culture of inclusivity. I train myself understand and recognize gender differences from various perspective thus getting a broader view of life. Additionally, I take the time to assess the cultural composition of my team, share and encourage best practices to ensure a balanced cultural diversity. This includes looking at masculine and feminine balance and assessing overused and underused values and qualities with both genders. To make sure that my life resonates well with employees, I share my personal progress with my peers. Additionally, I put my coaching skills to use and ensure that a strong bond exists with peer group at all times. The combination of all these has led to a balanced style of leadership which has come with major benefits that include higher customer satisfaction, reduced employee PERSONAL STYLES ANALYSIS 4 turnover, increased employee motivation which means increased work productivity. One thing that keeps this going every day is the ability to build connections with everyone all the time. Impacts of My Leadership Styles A supportive style which is very strong is effective especially when the tasks to be performed by the followers are dangerous, stressful and tedious. However, this style does not make any impacts when the work is intrinsically motivating. This is because intrinsic jobs do not require any motivation for one to do the work (Rothaermel, 2015). Supportive style creates job satisfaction, lead to increased self-confidence, performance and productivity. It also leads to increased commitment, cohesiveness, and corporation. Providing guidance helps in creating psychological support that leads to increased motivation thus increased production. Ability to have a balanced style means possession of the four leadership styles where these styles could be applied in different situations. Impacts of balanced leadership help an individual in gaining more insight on meditation. This practice positively impacts one’s life and contributes to a more peaceful environment. Leaders who practice good styles of leadership are fully present and are aware of the impacts they have in the world, they are more focused on meeting organizational goals. Another impact is gaining self-compassion by way of understanding life stories and how these motivate one's behaviors and those of their followers (Rothaermel, 2015). Gaining selfawareness enables leaders to relate well with others. Mindful leadership offers the promise of long-established practices that lead to the development of high levels of awareness. This leads to self-awareness which is an ingredient for high levels of calmness and tranquility of mind that ensure effective leadership thus authentic organizations. PERSONAL STYLES ANALYSIS 5 Target for Change and a Specific Change Strategy All the four styles complete and complement each other. From the DISC survey report, it is evident that there is always a room for improvement. However, I will focus on the directing style which was the second ranked in terms of percentile relative to the four styles. To improve on this descriptive style, I would assume more roles and ensure that I take control of various situations in the organization. One crucial lesson I have learned is that one could go either route, either become a supportive leader or the stern manager. It all depends on the determination of a person. Another way is to reduce my counterproductive style is to learn how to exercise patience and put more emphasis on meeting my goals as opposed to concentrating my mind on people. This also calls for taking the necessary risks to achieve objectives set. Although some of these behaviors at work are effective for the short-term duration, in the long-run they may interfere with the interaction with other people which could cause stress and anxiety. According to Waters and Cameron (2007), change is difficult and dangerous to handle and therefore the strategy chosen should be handled carefully. Mid-continent Research for Education and Learning (McREL) My goals 1- Increase my performance to get more experience in my field as an Accounting, this is will allow me to get promotion and change position. 2- “Senior level” position, I know it is additional work and I have to work hard, take more projects to become an expert in my field and open the door to achieve my long term goal. 3- Earn Management International job in Middle East as a Finance Manager. key goals 1- Graduate Certificate/ Accounting/Done 2- MBA/ Graduate in June, 2017 3- Start to think about CPA certificate/ I am going to communicate with my University to check the requirements for it. Obstacles - Experience: I complete almost three years in United State but I still feel I am new and I need more time to understand how to communicate with others, every thing is different, cultures, relationships and traditions. I feel its one of my weakness but I am working hard to avoid it. - Time: I have more then 8 years in my county in HR, Management, Operation and Finance but I think still I need more years here to achieve my long term goal. - QuickBooks: I am looking for Senior and professional Position, so I have to be expert in QuickBooks software.
