Explanation & Answer

Here you go 😊 Let me know if anything needs corrected or added!

1. Immigrants
Immigrants take special cultural consideration because of the difference in their, of course,
culture. While some immigrants do speak some English, it should not be expected when
counseling them. Some immigrants do not know any English at all and that should be taken
into consideration. Perhaps allowing journal therapy to take place in their native language
will help with this barrier. Usually, if the immigrants are children, they speak better English
than their parents. Bicultural stress is also something to be taken into consideration when
working with immigrants because not all cultures are the same around the world. Some
parents may wish a certain type of counselor to work with their child, because different
approaches work in different cultures. The reason the person immigrated could have an
effect on the challenges they have faced, so that should always be taken into consideration
when trying to counsel an immigrant.
2. Refugees
When counseling people such as refugees, it helps to put yourself in their shoes and to treat
them how you would like to be treated if you were in their stressful situation. Even if a
refugee does not speak a lick of English, they can still benefit from counseling because they
have probably been through a number of traumatic events. When speaking to refugees, you
should always gauge whether or not a smiling, happy approach is welcomed. Some cultures
might find this off-putting and some refugees might be so traumatized that a pleasant mood
reminds them of what they have lost. A counselor should always take care not to abrasively
condemn any aspect of a refugee’s culture — such as men and women’s roles. In a lot of
cultures, women are not treated fairly. As a counselor, you should not give your opinions on

these matters because the refugee is trying to transition between cultures and that is probably
not an easy task for them.

1. The Hmong in California
Depression is a mental illness that is most present in Hmong Americans and should always
be considered when counseling them because depression is a very sensitive matter. Many of
these immigrants are on welfare, which may be contributing to the fact that so many suffer
from depression. Hmong Americans also have a high segment of the population that
experiences anxiety. Anxiety might need to be taken into consideration during counseling
because the person may have...
