Steps of the grievance process
• Employee raises the issue informally
• Employee submits a grievance letter

Informal approach
• The first step is for the employer to try and resolve the issue with the
aggrieved employee in an informal way. The informal approach includes
the employer and employee speaking about the issue to determine how it
can be solved (Wood, Saundry, and Latreille, 2017).
• The informal approach aims to find a solution to the problem early on
before it escalates to a formal stage. The employee listens carefully to the
complainant, notes the main points, and assures the complainant that the
issue is under control. In the event that the informal approach fails to yield
satisfactory results for the complainant, the process moves to step two.
Submission of a grievance letter
• If the complainant is not satisfied with the outcome of the informal
approach , he writes a grievance letter in a formal process. The complainant
should include all appropriate details including, the nature of the
complaint, the particulars of the grievance, and evidence supporting their
claims if any (Wood, Saundry, and Latreille, 2017).
