Calculate the mass (in g) of 9.85 x 10^19 CCl2F2 molecules

Hi so first you want to convert the molecules to moles and then from moles to grams. When going from molecules to moles you divide by 6.02 x 1023

So take (9.85 x 10^19)  /  (6.02 x 10^23) = 0.000163621 moles

Looking at a periodic table we can find the grams per mole of CCl2F2:

12g/mol x 1(C) + 35.453g/mol x 2(Cl) + 18.998g/mol x 2(F) = 120.902 g/mol

multiply by the number of moles so moles cancels and you have the mass in grams.

120.902 g/mol x 0.000163621 mol = 0.019782106142 grams
