1-5/x - 36/x^2 The problem reads 1 + 3/x -4/x^2 divided by 1 - 5/x -36/x^2. I wasn't sure how to type it in.

The complex fraction can be written as using least common multiple:

x^2 +3x -4/ x^2-5x -36

= ( x+4) (x-1)/(x+4) ( x-9)

= x-1/ x-9

Answer: x-1/x-9
