The General's last name was Jackson. But they called him "Stonewall" Jackson, because during the Battle of Bull Run when it seemed the North was winning, he turned the tide of the battle around and was finally victorious. One of the Confederate soldiers remarked during the battle, "There stands Jackson, like a stone wall." Which meant that he was unmovable and could not be defeated.
