Madame d’Aulnoy
Examine one of Madame d’Aulnoy’s Fairy Tales for evidence of any of the following: veiled criticisms of royalty, of enforced marriages (she was firmly of the belief that women should be allowed to turn down suitors); of sexual harassment (things do not go well for nearly anyone, male or female, who continues to press unwanted romantic and/or sexual attentions on other characters); of overly elaborate court fashions that, she claimed, were used only to conceal an underlying ugliness, and frequently failing at that; and of untrustworthy servants or that the only good, trustworthy peasants in her tales are royals or fairies in disguise. Though, for all her focus on royals, she knew they could be overthrown, and the aristocrats and royalty in her tales who ignore a peasant’s cry for help generally face considerable consequences for their indifference.

1. Grace and Derek Fairy Tale by Madame d’Aulnoy
Grace denies Derek's proposal since they feel they don't know each other well enough to get
married. Therefore Derek ends up feeling sad and abandoned.
Grace wanted to know if Derek had forgotten about her when she was brought to the forest by
Grudge's warriors. She also expresses veiled criticism by stating that she doesn't want to phone
Derek because he would be there with her if he genuinely cared.
If Grudge discovers that Grace had handed Derek her task rather than finishing it herself, there
will be dishonesty.
