Please follow instructions as follow. Attached are 2 documents, 1 is a the first draft submitted (7 pages) and the other is the corrections professor made on that draft.

This final paper should be 9-10 pages, (there is already 7 pages written, just need to add 2 more pages and make corrections following professor recommendations) and use 5 academic resources. It must be impeccably cited and formatted. End references are required, and APA (except for the cover page--not required) should be followed. Please note that this minimum requirement is for nine full pages and this total does not include your cover or reference pages. (Keep in mind that a "full page" is a page entirely covered in text; therefore, a paper with eight and one half pages of text would not meet the nine page minimum requirement. Similarly, an essay that occupies nine full pages but includes charts, tables, and/or images within the body of the paper would not meet the nine page minimum requirement. Finally, I encourage everyone to take full advantage of the ten page limit to fully develop and detail his or her essay.)

Here are some additional reminders:

--Your essay must be written in third person--NOT first person.

--Your thesis statement should be posited as the final sentence of your introductory paragraph.

--This is not an expository essay, therefore you must do more than simply provide information--you must argue in support of your thesis.

--This is a college level essay. It must be properly formatted in accordance with APA guidelines; it must be free from errors in grammar, spelling, and punctuation. It must be fully documented in accordance with APA requirements for documenting research--including appropriate in-text citations and reference page.

Running head: RENAISSANCE AND CONTEMPORARY SOCIETY Renaissance and Contemporary Society Mallelyn Castro Chamberlain College of Nursing HUMN-303N-66172: Intro to Humanities April 7, 2017 1 RENAISSANCE AND CONTEMPORARY SOCIETY 2 Renaissance and Contemporary Society Renaissance in Europe is the period in the history of Europe from the 14th to 17th century. There is an increasing comparison and at the same time, contrast that has been capitalized in relating the arts of the early Renaissance in Europe and the contemporary society. During the analysis, there will be the description of the similarities and differences between the art that were performed in the early Renaissance and the modern culture in Europe. This will remain much importance because there will be the distinguishing the pieces of art between the two groups in Europe. Therefore, there will be addressing the art performed in early Renaissance and the contemporary society in Europe (King, 2003). Art is a diverse range of human activities in the creation of visual, auditory and at the same time, performing artifacts. In most of the times, the work of art is capitalized in the production of the work of art and the aesthetic dissemination of art. The oldest forms of art included the visual arts, which included the creation of images or objects in the field of painting, sculpture, photography and at the same time the visual media. The work of art always involves the creation of objects where the practical considerations of the essentials are always involved in the wider definition of the term art. There are similarities and at the same time, differences that can be related to the art that was performed during the early Renaissance of Europe and the contemporary period. The Renaissance period is the period that followed the middle ages in Europe that led to increased need or interest of learning of the classical and at the same time, the values of the ancient Greece and the Rome. Due to the growing prosperity during this period and the development of technologies such as the printing press, there was the increased discovery of the RENAISSANCE AND CONTEMPORARY SOCIETY 3 art. Besides, the style of painting, sculpture and at the same time, the decorative arts was realized in this period in Italy in the 14th century. The origin of the Renaissance art was traced in Italy in the early 14th century, and at this period, it was known as the proto- Renaissance. The Italians scholars saw this as an opportunity of discovering ideas and the achievements of the roman culture. There was inclusive of some writers such as Petrarch and Giovanni. These ancient scholars used the intellectual traditions and cultures after an increased time of stagnation that was followed by the fall of the Roman Empire in the sixth century. Leonardo da Vinci, who is one of the Renaissance men, was able to practice the visual art and was able to have a broad range of topics such as geology, anatomy, and botany that he based his painting to come up with viable pieces of art during the early Renaissance in Europe. Additionally, the Catholic arts remained a major patron of art during this period of the Renaissance in Europe. During the Renaissance, the work of art was commissioned by the civil governments, wealthy individuals and at the same time, the court. Therefore, during this period, the work of art was much important and led to increasing of coming up with more ways of ensuring that the art would be involved to the normal individuals in Europe during this renaissance period. During this period, the work of art was divided into four parts including early Renaissance period, high renaissance, and revival in practice and at the same time, expansion and decline of the work of art. During the early Renaissance art, was majorly involved in the creation of the Trinity in the church of Santa Maria, it remained much influential in the early renaissance, and there was the increased degree of naturalism in his work of art (Danto & Goehr, 2007). RENAISSANCE AND CONTEMPORARY SOCIETY 4 During the high Renaissance period, there was the creation of the last supper piece of work that has the major influence in Europe during that period. During this time, there is the physical relationship between human, animals and at the same time objects. When the time of the Renaissance art in practice, many works of Renaissance art depicted religious images, including subjects Madonna and at the same time the Virgin Mary and it is this period that there are increased religious rituals. This work of arts was associated with the catholic mass and the patrons who were able to sponsor the mass itself capitalized it. During the 15th and the 16th centuries, there was the spread of the Renaissance in France and Italy. It is during this period that there were the expansion and the decline of the work of point in Europe. During this time, there was the discovering of multiple methods of painting directly on the canvas. These types of painting remained of such importance to the artists because it was helpful to the artists in reworking on the images. There was increased celebration of the work of art in Europe. However, in the 16th century, the work of art in the Europe started declining to the point that it was not influential as compared to the 13th and the 4th century. The contemporary art can be described in the art of the today. The artists who were dwelling in the twenty- first century produced it. The contemporary art was mainly established to ensure that the individuals can be able to reflect on the relevant issues regarding ourselves and the world that surround us. It is realized that the contemporary society always works in a global view, culture diverges and at the same time, technological advancing globe or the world (Weber, 2003). Their contribution to the work of art is a combination of elements such as materials, methods, and subject and at the same time, concepts that have been in a position of challenging the boundaries of our traditions. The contemporary work is tamed to be the part of the cultural RENAISSANCE AND CONTEMPORARY SOCIETY 5 dialogue that has a concern for the larger society and the contextual framework such as the family, community and the cultural identity. Therefore, the contemporary act has been described to mean the modern art in the current situation of humankind. There is an increased similarity of the pieces of art during the early Renaissance in Europe and the contemporary society in Europe. The work of art has been due to the result of the intellectual of man and the emotion connection with the globe. The main aim of art in either the early Renaissance in Europe or the contemporary society is concerned with the message that can either provoke the consciousness within the hearts or incite the wisdom among the minds of the curious affronted. Some of the similarities can be initiated from both periods of the creation of the pieces of art includes. Firstly, on both accounts, there is the capitalization of the multiple styles of painting. Additionally, both the early Renaissance period and the contemporary society, there is the utilization of the personal work, which is much associated with the human emotions that play an integral role for the artists. Besides, on both accounts, there is the involvement of stages of experimentation. However, the ideal way of seeing the larger picture has no differentiation in the artists. The ancient art is considered as a result of the man praise of the human beings while the modern arts usually describes the search of the man in identifying after being subjugated by the forces for a long time. Therefore, there are increased similarities between the piece of art that was performed during the early Renaissance and the contemporary society (Hale, 2005). However, even though there are increased similarities between the early Renaissance in Europe and the contemporary society, multiple differences are differentiating both of these accounts. Some of the differences that can be realized between these elements include. Firstly, RENAISSANCE AND CONTEMPORARY SOCIETY 6 there is the difference in color. During the Renaissance period, work of art was done was conducted by oil paint- natural and the earth colors. Additionally, there was the usage of the live colors, and there was improved form of dull color and the golden background. Besides, there was the usage of the colors in the creation of three-dimensional and the natural effects. However, during the contemporary society, there is the usage of the bright and bold colors and in some of the times remaining to be the exaggeration of the type of color used. Additionally, there was the difference in the portraits that was capitalized in the early Renaissance and the contemporary society. During the time of early Renaissance, there was the Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci, and it remained the famous works of art of all times in the history of the Renaissance. What was much famous with the piece of art of Mona Lisa was the mysterious smile and at the same time, the mystery that was behind the art. In the contemporary society, there was inclusive of two portraits that remained much popular during this period. These portraits include Japanese art and symbolism and the Portrait of the Pere Tanguy. This piece of art remained to be much popular because they had a uniquely Japanese style that represented the culture of Japan (Ferguson, 2006). Besides, most of the Renaissance artists remained to be muralists, and they were working on large-scale groups. Most of their work of art involved religious painting that was inclusive of the papal and the aristocratic commissions, and this kind of art was known to be about form while the art. During the contemporary society was associated with optics and there was the featuring of the more merchant classes. RENAISSANCE AND CONTEMPORARY SOCIETY 7 Furthermore, there was the difference in the usage of landscape or the nature painting between the early Renaissance and the contemporary society. During the early present, there was the involvement of the Tempest by Giorgione and most of the pieces of art that were created by the artists remained to be of nature and included that of people. These types of arts remained too realistic, and there were no elements of exaggeration. However, during the contemporary society, lines colors surreal sky and landscape was prevalent, and there was the capitalizing of the starry nights during the creation of the art of art (Ferguson, 2006). Therefore, there are differences and similarities between the piece of art during the early Renaissance and the contemporary society, and this has been associated with the increased technology in the society. This has led increased ways of ensuring that the piece of art remains easy to create as compared to the past. This type of comparison between the individuals during the early Renaissance and the contemporary society remain much importance because it can be used to describe how time has led to changes on how things are performed currently as compared to the past. In conclusion, the work of art has remained during the Renaissance time in Europe and has been increased involved of technology in perfecting its look. However, there is the reduction of aesthetic between the early Renaissance and the contemporary society. These differences have been capitalized in distinguishing the cultures of these people because most of the work of art is always associated with the cultures of the specific individuals. Therefore, through the comparison of these works of arts, there can be a possibility of ensuring the structure and the culture of the societies have changed compared with the changes in time and technology. However, it is much importance to maintaining a unique work of art to ensure that there is aesthetic and be able to limit exaggeration. RENAISSANCE AND CONTEMPORARY SOCIETY 8 References Danto, A. Week Six Essay Draft Score Report Important: Please note that your Essay Draft Assignment receives a score for completion. This score simply reflects whether you have successfully fulfilled the requirements of the assignment, listed below, and it is NOT a measure of the quality of your developing project. The purpose of this assignment and of my feedback is to provide guidance, direction, and recommendations for the shaping of your final essay—which WILL be scored for quality. The completion criteria for this assignment were the following: Length (5-7 pages) – 75 Points Reference Page – 45 Points Three References – 30 Points Score Report Length: 75 Reference Page: 45 Three References: 30 TOTAL: 150 Comments This is a generally well-written first draft; however, it is problematic in a couple of respects: --Your paper lacks a thesis. You fail to assert a specific and appropriate area of impact in contemporary society. Simply asserting “the arts” in Europe is insufficient for this paper, as it is far too broad and unspecific a topic. You must assert that the Renaissance had an impact on some specific humanities based area of contemporary society. For instance, your focus might be something like, “The Renaissance has had a lasting impact on contemporary Belgian architecture.” --Much of your essay is expository rather than argumentative. Remember, exposition should only be employed in the service of argument. Avoid writing a simple history of the Renaissance. Avoid presenting facts that are untethered to specific argument. Remember, your goal is to argue the influence of the Renaissance upon a specific humanities based area of contemporary society. --In its present form, this is simply a history of the Renaissance. This paper would not earn a passing grade. Your entire paper must be focused on arguing a precise thesis. The score you have received for this draft is merely a completion grade. It does not reflect the accuracy or quality of your rhetoric. Reminders/Recommendations • Please write in third person. • • • Please continue to revise and refine your thesis. Take a moment to review my handout on thesis writing. Remember, your thesis must be a statement of argument. Please review proper APA formatting for citations and references. Remember, in addition to references and a reference page, you must provide appropriate in-text citations for all source derived work—including quoted, paraphrased and summarized. Focus on argument rather than exposition. Remember, the goal of your essay is to argue your thesis.

RENAISSANCE AND CONTEMPORARY SOCIETY
Renaissance and Contemporary Society
Introduction
Renaissance in Europe is the period in the history of Europe from the 14th to 17th
century. The Renaissance was primarily characterized by political, intellectual, scientific, as well
as cultural explosion that occurred from14th century to 17th century throughout Europe. The
Renaissance is primarily the most significant period in the history of human kind following the
all of the Ancient Rome that is the most influential movement in the history of mankind.
Renaissance originated in Florida, Europe in the 14th century and the massive nature of its ideas
spread throughout the rest of Europe. Dominant artists of the Renaissance period included
Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael, Donatello, Botticelli, as we as Michelangelo, Shakespeare, among
others (Evans, 2002). These artists drew their inspiration from these ancient classics primarily
drawing from the ancient gods, tales, heroes, as well as heroines that inspired the artists into
creating the exquisite art of the Renaissance. The art of this time wasn’t limited to looking pretty
but also explored other areas of the society including the human anatomy, cultural aspects,
moon, light, shadow, and other new realism (Reynolds, 2011). The primary purpose of
Renaissance art was to capture as well as portray the world’s beauty in its natural form. As world
exploration continued that resulted in the discovery of a new world, news cultures and ways of
life emerged that had direct impact on the Renaissance. Art became disseminated as it united
with philosophy as well as science to produce an outcome of nothing seen before. As a result of
the scientific advances that were enabled by the Renaissance, there was the emergency of the
printing press one of the most prominent impacts of the Renaissance period. Printing press was
first introduced by Gutenberg in the year 1440. The role of the Renaissance society in modeling
the contemporary society cannot be overlooked and is manifested through artwork, literary

devices, as well as scientific contributions and this paper seeks to exemplify the importance of
the Renaissance in modeling the contemporary society.
The influence of Renaissance on Contemporary culture
The impacts of Renaissance can be observed in modern society’s art, culture, as well as
society at large. The Renaissance formed the basis of the formation of the contemporary society,
culture, science, as well as artistic expressions that was primarily a deviation from the set
standards by the church. Human potential, scientific inquiry, as well as religion was the driving
stone of Renaissance as well as today’s American society and culture. Principles of realism
emerged at the time and remained throughout history to modern American society. These
principles of realism were mostly employed in literature as well as art and are still critical in
modern society with Renaissance icons such as Boccaccio, Machiavelli, as well as da Vinci,
having direct influence in the way people in the modern society view the world (Evans, 2002).
Prior Renaissance, writers as well as artists were drawn to address issues related to religion and
most writings were focused on advising people on ways of living a religious life focusing
Christian heroes. However, the Renaissance influenced all the writers who wanted to break off
this persistent tradition that dictated what they wrote, and result into a realistic view of life as it
was. As a result, the literary authors of Renaissance period were consequently responsible for
today’s realism view of the world as well as the various political thoughts.
The introduction of the concept of realism gave people an opportunity to enjoy aspects of
tales that were forbidden and inaccessible before Renaissance. This aspect of realism has
transpired to today’s society. One of the most prominent figures of Renaissance whose work has
had prominent impacts in the contemporary society is Giovanni Boccaccio. This author was
responsible for writing very many important works such as “The Decameron...
