For a long time, social media was viewed as a platform for the youth to interact
informally. However, with the increase in the number of users of different age groups, it now
offers numerous benefits for employers to communicate.
Advantages and Drawbacks of Using Social Media to Communicate
Social media enables managers to gain valuable insights from customers. It gives a 360degree feedback where managers interact with customers directly and respond to them at a
personal level. Traditional methods of communication do not offer this because they have
intermediaries such as customer care representatives. It enables the organization to interact with
the global community by offering an avenue to speak freely through written, audio and audiovisual forms. It has eliminated the barriers of geographical distance by giving opportunities to
people from all over the world to exchange information, goods, and services. Social media has

Through the various platforms, employers are able to interact with employees informally while
