Running Head: Trending Issues 1 Trending Issues Trending Issues 2 Throughout the world in which we live, we are faced with ethical dilemmas every day. The consumer electronics industry is no different in that we face issues in our day-to-day activities that violate ethical standards of society. Companies in this industry are among the most lucrative organizations around the globe. Many companies in our industry may seem sound and ethical from the outside, but what we do not see is the unethical behavior occurring at the lowest level of the organization. In every industry there are ethical issues which should be addressed to ensure that that industry is delivering quality services to the customers and to the employees. The following are some of the ethical issues which can be observed in the consumer electronics industry. One of the common ethical issues that are common in the consumer electronics industry is the mistreatment of workers. The consumer electronics industry has offered a number of products that have changed the way people live their lives, but the issue that faces these products are the unsafe labor practices that go into making the products. These high-tech products are often times created in sweatshops or factories with poor working conditions. An example of this is the mistreatment of workers in the Apple industry where the workers are subjected to harsh working conditions and the relationship between workers and their bosses is not that good. In recent years, Apple is one of the companies that have been under fire for their unfair labor practices in their production factories overseas. Apple's success is due in large part to their innovative products that they create in their sweatshops. The biggest issue aside from the fact that it breaks local and national laws is the fact that these practices are in violation of Apple's code of conduct. Although a code of conduct is by no means the law, the company has repeatedly promised to change the way their factory workers are treated but that has yet to happen. Several reports have surfaced from Foxconn, a manufacturing partner for Apple, about employee suicides from the appalling working conditions in their facility in China. Apple assembling point in China has suffered from harsh Trending Issues 3 working conditions and some of the workers have been dropping dead from the harsh experiences they go through at work. Therefore poor employees working condition is one of the ethical issues to address. This is a trending issue and there is need to make sure that the employees at our company are working in the best conditions. Another ethical issue in the consumer electronics industry is production of inferior products or imitation of other quality products and failing to deliver the quality so as to make profits. Most customers have been duped when buying consumer electronics products. Companies that imitate others usually change the name or even use the same name but the products which are released in the market are nothing close to the quality products which have been promised to the customers. Lying to consumer is an unethical thing because it ruins the reputation and giving an inferior product is cheating and stealing from the customer. To address this problem every company should make sure that the products that are released in the market are of high quality and are offering the customers the value they expected. Another unethical practice common in the consumer electronics industry is that the prices gorging. Most of the companies are in dilemma whether to make profits by charging high or by charging normal prices as expected by the law. The management of such companies is under pressure from the employers to make sure that they have achieved various goals and objectives which include high profits and increased revenue. This forces the management to charge higher prices for the products and this is not an ethical practice. It is always right to make sure that the price which has been set for the products is equivalent to what the product will offer to the customer and would be an evil thing to charge high prices. Corporate social responsibility is important in this case and to make sure that the company is socially responsible the prices which are set for the Trending Issues 4 products should be similar to the prices of related goods in the market. A socially responsible organization should make sure that the above unethical practices are avoided so as to deliver quality and respect the rights of those working in the organization.
