Laura Wexler talks about the lynching of the two African American couples in the year
1946 in the book Fire in a Canebrake. The two couples were murdered at the side of the road
without any witness. It was not a normal scenario for murder to occur at random unless the
murder was planned to happen. These incidences were popular amongst the African American
and they termed it as lynching when African American were murdered through the various
method which included castrating, burning, tying to a stake and another mode of torture while
some of them were being shot. These incidences only occurred to the African American.
In the story written by Laura, all the incidence were as a result of her research on what
was happening to the African American because she was a journalist. She wanted to resolve the
case to the two couples who were murdered beside a road by interviewing the witness where the
