A line passes through the point(
 )and has a slope of
 . Write an equation for this line.

There are two ways you can approach this problem.

Method 1: Use slope-intercept form (y = mx + b)

m = 5, x = -4, y = 2 based on the information given. Then 2 = 5(-4) + b. When you simplify this, you get 2 = -20 + b. Add 20 to both sides to get 22 = b. Your equation would be y = 5x + 22.

Method 2: Use point-slope form (y - y1 = m(x - x1))

m = 5, x1 = -4, and y1 = 2 based on the information given. Then y - 2 = 5(x - (-4)). You can simplify inside the parentheses to get y - 2 = 5(x + 4). Distribute to get y - 2 = 5x + 20. Add 2 to both sides to get y = 5x + 22.
