1. Henry David Thoreau:


After attending Harvard College, he decided to take a leave of absence and after finally
graduating in 1837 he decides to open Concord Academy, a grammar school in Concord.



He finally spends most of his life working in his family´s pencil factory turning it some
years later into a graphite producing factory.



Often seen as an anarchist, Thoreau was actually an abolitionist, he encouraged the
evolution of society by removing slavery as a legal method of hard labor.



Thoreau was a Conscientious Objector, in addition to his naturalist ideology, he believed
in the civil right to rightfully refuse to be involved in the military. Civilians must be free
not only to not join the military but also actively refuse war as an acceptable human
response to progress.
