What is Personality?
Personality refers to the specific individual variations in the characters of people, the way
of thinking, feeling and patterns of behavior. Personality is a concept that takes two wider
approaches in order to be able to fully understand a person. The first approach looks into
variations in a person’s characteristics, for instance, a person’s ability to socialize in a healthy
way. The second approach looks into how an individual brings together the various aspects about
themselves as a whole. The aspects that involve personality are very dynamic and individuals
can have more than one. A person’s personality is what influences a lot of the actions they take,
emotions and generally how they as individuals interact with the world around them. A
personality cannot be just random behavioral aspects exhibited, they have to be consistent over
time so that they can be referred to as personality. A part from being consistently exhibited, the
different aspects of personality also have to strongly influence not just external environment but
internal such as expectations attitudes and self-perceptions (Schultz & Schultz, 2016).
