Description
IV. Group Analysis Paper
Each student will submit a 5-6-page paper describing and assessing his/her analysis of the group’s dynamics according to the following criteria:
- strengths and weaknesses of the group
- stages of the group’s development
- goals of the group
- norms (formal and informal) of the group
- leadership in the group and how it emerged
- decision making in the group
- conflicts in the group and how they were resolved or managed
- communication in the group
- roles different people played in the process (ex: gatekeeper, harmonizer, etc)
This paper will also include the following personal assessments:
- your role(s) during group activities and during the creation, development and presentation of the group’s final project
- an assessment of your role(s) in other groups (current and past)
- insights into your behavior as a group member and group leader
- how you will apply these learnings to your behavior in other groups (current and future)

GROUP DYNAMICS
Group dynamics involves the processes that take place when individuals interact with
each other to achieve a similar goal or objective (Bjerregaard & Jonasson). Group dynamics
ensure that groups function as a unit, despite the wrangles and the fall outs that may happen
when the group is in operation. During this period, I have been able to understand how groups
functions and what are the requirements of coming up with group dynamics that lead to
successful groups, during and even after completion of the assigned tasks.
Group dynamics are key in assisting a certain group in defining the limits and group
norms through which they will operate in during the tenure of operations. They assist in
identifying the rules of operation of a given group and the standard operating procedures through
which everyone should operate under. Group dynamics are formed by the embers of the group
and are only enforced by the members who believe in them. Group dynamics greatly affect the
performance as through dynamics one can tell the state of a given group at a particular time.
In our group, the group dynamics have assisted in the building of close relationships and
in time delivery of tasks. The group dynamics that we operate on also dictate that all members
should be present at all group discussion a trend which discourages joy riding of any member
during our group discussions. Our group dynamics have also assisted us to grow through

learning and not only view assignments and tasks as tasks to carry out but to also evaluate their
impact and effect beyond the classroom environment. These have been positive influences that
group dynamics have brought to our working as a group on assigned tasks and allocated
assignments.
Group dynamics having brought a lot of positive impact in our group, it has also led to
some of the weaknesses that we experience as a group during the time of interaction. With group
direction, we are bound by the dynamics to act and operate as a unit. Wrong research or
calculations from a single group member mean that all the members of the group are bound by
the wrong results or analysis that have been provided by one single member. Our group
dynamics also have a disadvantage of putting too much focus on ourselves to the point that we
forget the greater goal that there are other groups that have been assigned with a similar task.
My role during my group is coordination of activities. Through my role can ensure that
all the tasks that have been allocated to every member of the group have been successfully
delivered promptly and according to the requirements. With coordination, I have to monitor
each, and every group member is tracking their progress with their assigned tasks and ensuring
that every step of the way they deliver the allocated milestones as per the defined instructions.
The continuous monitoring not only assists in the delivery of quality project but also in the
participating of everyone in the said group projects with everyone having an input on what their
take is.
Having been a coordinator in the past groups that I have participated in, I have been
equipped properly, and through time I have become better and better at what I do coordinating
the occurrence and the happening of activities. My previous experience has also taught me how
to handle pressure and equally distribute the pressure to the group members for things to

smoothly run in the group. Through group dynamics, everyone needs to be under pressure for
delivery of content and for results to be seen.
Through the formation of the group, there has been different stages that we as a group
