Accountability and Responsibility
Introduction
Accountability and responsibility are values that every person should poses as they help
in developing an individual’s morals and values. These values make people dependable, and
trustworthy. Although accountability and responsibility may appear to be different, the two have
many similarities. Therefore, they both need to be adopted and observed equally. The following
is an analysis of the two concepts, how they may be applied, and how individuals can become
accountable and responsible.
Accountability
What does it mean to be accountable? To be accountable means accepting responsibility
for actions taken and owning up to the outcomes or consequences of a choice, action, or
decision. Accountability is part of a person’s moral makeup as it entails important principles that
must be possessed by an individual. This includes; honesty, truthfulness, trustworthiness,
courage, patience, and personal responsibility. Therefore, accountability is an important aspect of
personal and professional lives. Individuals must be accountable for actions they take personally
at home, school, or work (Tumwebaze et al., 2018). It’s a major requirement for organizations
that serve the public such as the military. Therefore, when working in these sectors, individuals
must become accountable for their actions and every decision they make.
