Question Description

Read Case Web Porn at Work. Once you have read this case study, answer the following question: Because Al fired the employee who violated the company's computer system, would it be inconsistent or unfair of him to treat Craig any differently? Just need 1 to 2 paragraph.

and reply two discussion which below as sentence separately.

#1 In general, I will argue that it would be inconsistent and unfair of Al to treat Craig any differently IF the reason AI gives is that Craig has a higher position (associate vice president of human resources) and that Craig is one of his old friend.

However, I was actually puzzled by the exact question that is at stake here. It's said in the textbook that Al values integrity, honesty and intrinsic values; and I take what that fired employee has done to be something that is not honest and not ethical, e.g. violating someone else's privacy. The case with Craig is less clear to me in the sense that I am puzzled as to how exactly Craig is violating the company's rules. For instance, does he violate the rules by spending time doing irrelevant things? Or does he violate the rules by not being honest to his wife? Or does he violate the rules by watching porns, something considered unethical by Al?

Moreover, if we take the reasoning behind the evaluation of different court evidences into account, Al might actually have a reason to not fire Craig: the initial source of his misconduct is in itself unjustified.

#2 After reading the case, I don't believe Craig should be fired and it wouldn't be inconsistent or unfair of him because Craig truly needs help. I believe Al should suggest that Craig should seek consulting to treat his condition effectively and than be able to return one he completes his consulting. During that time, they should have a temp in his place to keep the business. Once Craig returns, his computer will still be closely monitored under a contract Craig signs upon arrival and only if Craig does not fulfill the expectations of his job after consulting and is caught watching porn he will be terminated.
