Description

Unit 2

I.Q. (intelligence quotient): In general, it is an assessment of your ability to think and reason. An IQ score is a standardized way of comparing this ability with the majority of people the same age as you. A score of 100 means that compared to these people in your general age group, you have basically an average intelligence. Most psychologists would say those scoring in a range of 95 to 105 are of normal intelligence or have an average IQ. The actual IQ score may vary plus or minus five points since it is very difficult to get an IQ score with complete accuracy.

Take an IQ test; there are many available for free online, such as The Free IQ Test. While you are taking it, try to notice the questions and how you are being tested.

For this assignment, write a 2-page double-spaced paper:

Share your results if you feel comfortable. Do you believe it truly reflects your intelligence? What are some things you can do to improve your intelligence? Why do you believe these things will improve your intelligence? Cite from your unit readings and/or outsides resources to support your statements about ways to improve your intelligence.

Many argue that IQ tests only measure analytical intelligence, but other researchers have argued that there is more than one type of intelligence. Sternberg proposed a triarchic theory of intelligence, and Gardner proposed 8 specific bits of intelligence. What do you think is the best model for measuring intelligence, and why? Cite from your unit readings and/or outside resources.

Intelligence Quotient (IQ)
The results of an IQ test do not truly reflect on my intelligence considering it tests on
some cognitive abilities while leaving others. These test should measure my overall general
intelligence, but it rather tests a few of my cognitive abilities. This does not truly reflect on my
intelligence since intelligence quotient scores can change based on context. IQ tests are affected
by factors like coaching and motivation, which means the less effort I put into the test, the less I
score, and the more effort I put into the test the more I am likely to score. There are also
strategies that other people utilize in these tests and my less knowledge on these strategies could
affect my score. Therefore, my intelligence ...
