The Role of Project Management
Project management is a process that is undertaken by a team to achieve specific goals
and specific success criteria. This process involves initiating, planning, executing, controlling,
and closing the work of the team involved. A project is an endeavor to yield a product, service or
a result with a defined time frame and this is done to achieve unique goals and objectives so as to
bring beneficial change. The primary challenge of project management is to achieve the goals
and objectives of the project with the stipulated constraints. The major constraints in project
management are scope, time, quality of work and budget. Project management brings a unique
focus shaped by goals, resources, and schedule of each project. The value of that focus is proved
by rapid, worldwide growth of project management.
The discipline of project management has developed from various fields of application
including civil construction, engineering, and heavy defense activity. Skills in project
management were demonstrated early in 2570BC during the construction of the great pyramid in
