It is an important approach to assessing and evaluating evidence before applying it in life. It helps a person to step out of a situation and look at the issue by looking at it from various perspectives before making a decision (MCAT, 2016). Critical thinking is not just being critical it is more than just finding flaws in other people’s arguments (Facione, 2011). It is more about being creative, reflective, and adaptable and deciding for you. Additionally, it involves making a personal stand in a crowd where other peoples points of view. Its strength lies in using critical thinking skills helps create confidence in personal opinions (MCAT, 2016). Developing critical thinking skills allows an individual to evaluate arguments and to discover the truth and form an opinion on truths that do not feel right. It involves evaluating arguments to see how they stand up. Through critical thinking, a person can filter what is right, as well as what is wrong. With critical thinking skills, a person becomes a better decision maker. Managers therefore use critical thinking skills to make better decisions. To be critical thinker managers must learn to view problems from multi perspectives. When an issue is viewed from many angles, it becomes easy to see many solutions than when such a problem is viewed from only one looking glass. As highlighted in Kate’s video, being gathering information is a step towards becoming a critical thinker. The demand for healthcare service workers is growing as the need to give quality care to patient increases. Healthcare is one of the fields that do not fit in the on-demand economy because it involves human interaction based care. For instance, nurses must be employed to give bedside care until the patient gets better. The demand for healthcare makes healthcare services important and irreplaceable. Additionally, the factor that activities are structured to work in a certain way in healthcare makes it difficult for healthcare jobs to fit within the on–demand economy construct. One of the reasons why healthcare services remain uninterrupted by ondemand economy is because of the risk and perhaps the liability element, which could occur due to poor services. Additionally healthcare services are better when provided in a hospital setting or an environment that has been assessed by a team of specialists, which only happens in a hospital environment before it is transferable to homecare. Quality of care is an important aspect in today’s healthcare because it determines customer satisfaction, as well as drives compensation. This means that if poor services are offered, no compensation or reimbursement will be given to the healthcare organization. This means that the mandate by the government for employers to give employee benefits such as healthcare benefits, retirement benefits, sick leave, and good salaries, among others to workers such as nursing assistants, food service employees, hospital housekeepers, lab technicians and phlebotomists will improve the quality of care, which will benefit both the patient and the employer. As a result, the mandate has seven advantages. First, the employees enjoy better salaries, health insurance cover, sick leave and good working conditions. A fourth advantage is that good benefits will help an employer attract highly qualified workforce. This will be important in maintaining high quality of care in the hospital. A fifth pro is that employers who offer their healthcare employees health benefit and social welfare benefits get the opportunity to deduct such benefits as tax-deductible expenses (FindLaw, n.d). Sixth, offering good health benefits to employees is a way of dealing with absenteeism, which could cripple services in a healthcare organization (FindLaw, n.d). It would be detrimental if nurse assistants failed to show up to work considering that they are primary bedside care providers. Additionally, hospital housekeeping staffs are also pivotal and their absence in a hospital would paralyze the operations in the entire organization. The effects of absenteeism would be damaging at any level of the organization even when lab technicians, who are pivotal in running and supporting diagnostics that require lab tests are absent, the organization could come to a standstill. On a seventh advantage, motivation of the lower staff employees in a health care settings such as Nurse assistants, Phlebotomists, Orderly, Housekeeping staff, and lab technicians is important because these individuals are crucial in ensuring that the organization remains on track. Cons The government mandate for employers to increase healthcare benefits and other types of benefits has its negative connotations. For instance, when nurses, phlebotomists, housekeeping staff, and food service staffs are paid high salaries, the cost of operations in the healthcare organization would go up (Mathews, 2013). This will affect the cost recovery efforts of the organization (Mathews, 2013). The second disadvantage, which flows automatically from the above disadvantage, is that that many employers would be forced to lay off several of their employees such as nurse assistants, phlebotomists, housekeepers, etc in order to lower the costs of operation. This has the effect of increasing structural unemployment. Additionally, the employers would seek to rely more on non-permanent employees and resorting to temporary or part-time employees. This could lead to a third disadvantage, which is the watering down of quality. Because of the high employee turnover, it could take a lot of effort before the organization can offer good quality services because the new employees must take time to adjust to the new place of work and environment. This alludes to the learning curve theory, which suggests that the more an employee performs a task the more they become efficient. The fourth disadvantage is that poor employee performance will affect quality delivery, which means that the organization will suffer a shortfall in revenues dues to decreased reimbursements, which stems from poor customer satisfaction. The fifth disadvantage is that this would affect small healthcare organizations because they lack adequate resources to draft an elaborate benefits scheme for its healthcare employees (FindLaw, n.d). This act expands the span of health insurance, giving medical cover to additional member of American society. Not only this healthcare bill increases the span of health insurance (larger population is medically insured), but also it emphasize on the quality of healthcare services. These two factors have directly shaped healthcare industry and accelerated its growth. As the healthcare industry has grown more employment has generated. This increase in the employment has positively impacted 1) healthcare industry 2) overall economy 3) quality of service and 4) supply of health related facilities. In addition, the types of jobs that have been generated are Nurse Assistants, Lab Technicians, and Hospital Food Service Personnel etc (Adamczyk, 2016). However, these changes in supply/demand of labor have also forced other industrial changes, such employment rights and privileges. The main focus of this paper will be in the healthcare sector majoring on the typical work hours, availability of personnel, hiring needs and the salary. To begin with, one of the reasons why the employers would find it beneficial to offer employees benefits would be complying with the law, get the financial saving for their employees, obtain a competitive edge in the market and finally recruit and retaining the top performers in the healthcare sector. job which is due to the rising need for quality healthcare to patients. It is true that there are
various institutions especially the small healthcare organizations which doesn't fully offer
employee benefits due to insufficient resources for implementing a comprehensive employee's
benefits scheme. I also support that Federal and state have made efforts to ensure that employers
in the healthcare sector increase the employees' benefits so as to achieve better quality. I agree
with you that by the health institutions or government providing the employees with beneficial
facilities then it will negatively affect the country budget hence lower the economy. This is
because the majority of employers will lay off some workers leading to increased structural
