Mau Mau War
This was a resistive armed conflict that was took place in Kenya against the British colonialists
before gaining independence in 1963. This war greatly hastened the process of attaining
independence for Kenya. Issues that led to increasing revolt of the Mau Mau war included
expulsion of Kikuyu tribe from their lands, poverty and the insufficient representation of the
Africans in leadership. Lots of lives were lost including the British forces, Mau Mau rebels and
loyalist Africans. The war was attributed to start at around 1952 with the Kikuyu people being
the most involved in the colony.
Apartheid system
This was a system of racial segregation and discrimination instituted in South Africa during
colonial times from the late 1940s to 1991. There was segregation in public places, in using
facilities, and events according to race where whites were advantaged greatly as the blacks were
discriminated in the colony. Contact between the white and the non-white population was meant
to be limited. Despite the fact that the system faced great amount of opposition, through
legislation, the system managed to be enforced for close to 50 years.
