• The “right” has consequences when it endangers other people’s lives
• Driving under the influence (DUI) is a crime in any country
• “How does it feel to take away lives out of drunk driving?” A colleague once
asked me.
• “Taking away someone’s father, grandmother, grandfather, or any significant
other will always haunt you” I replied
• I would like us to talk about drunk driving and why it concerns us
Chronic Drunk Driving
• Chronic drivers have driven for at least 1000 times before being caught
• These drivers causes the most brutal accidents on our roads
• How often do we drive under the influence of alcohol?
• How many times do we fail to respond to messages from lawful authorities?
• Why do we keep quiet when a drunk person takes the wheel?
• Let us say no to drunk driving
Consequences of drunk driving
• Physical dangers of drunk driving involve injuries to passengers and
pedestrians
• There’s also the possibility damaging road infrastructure, cars and bikes
• Offenders also face legal charges, even first time offenders
• Some of the penalties of drunk driving include; license suspension, heavy
fines, jail time or mandatory alcohol education
• Did you know that may even risk losing respect in the society and losing
future job opportunities?

Facts About Driving Under The Influence
• Half of all holiday driving accidents are related to drunk driving
• In America, 30-40 people lose lives daily due to drunk driving (NHTSA, 2011)
• In 2008, 35% of traffic related deaths in America were caused by drunk
drivers (CDC, 2011)
• Drivers with a high blood alcohol concentration (BAC) are prone to cause more
accidents (Drinking and Driving, 2012)

How Do We Stop Drunk Driving?
• It is our “right” to be safe as we travel
• Let us be traffic ambassadors in our families, work places, social clubs

• It may seem to be challenging but we have nothing to lose by correcting

Alcohol Education
• We should educate other people on the dangers of drunk driving
• This can be achieved through social media, social clubs and print media
• Let us teach teenagers on the dangers of driving under the influence
• Alcohol education would save many lives
• If our fellow road users aren’t educated on this, then we risk losing our lives
• Educating them is part of saving our lives too
• Mandatory alcohol education should be offered during driving lessons
The Unseen Victims Of Drunk Driving
• The untimely death of family members from drunk driving affects many
people
• Most affected are children and parents
• Children who lose their parents are left to live with long life effects
• Some often engage in drug addiction
• The country also loses that person’s contribution to the economy
• Let us be avoid drunk driving to protect the lives of our members and the will
of the nation
