Leadership Paper (Part 2): Leadership Book Report and Reflection Paper
This assignment is a 2000 word written paper on Steve Jobs. Just in case it doesn't show everything here I am attatching a file that also explains what is required.
This assignment provides students the opportunity to apply their knowledge of leadership by evaluating the skills, values, methods, and performance of someone in leadership. Through the reading of an autobiography or biography of a leader, the student will determine the leader’s strengths and weakness but, most importantly, how that individual’s approach to leadership conforms or diverges from the model presented by Kouzes and Posner in The Leadership Challenge. Finally, students will have an opportunity to reflect on the leader’s experience and describe what they learned and how it will help them in their own leadership journey.
The Schmidt text (suggested readings) provides a fairly comprehensive overview of the influence that Christians have had in the world including in the areas of science, art, architecture, music, economics, business, healthcare, education, law, politics, literature, and, of course, theology and religion. For this assignment, identify a leader in your specific field (discipline, major, minor, area of interest, etc.); this can be a current leader or an historical figure. Select and read a quality academic biography or autobiography about this leader and write a book report. Your professor must approve your topic; an assignment submission link is provided in Unit 2 through which you can submit your book selection. The main body of the report must address the following:
- What individuals influenced this leader and in what ways? In other words, who are his or her role models?
- Identify at least two (2) major challenges the leader faced. Did the leader succeed or fail?
- Integrate the Kouzes and Posner text and explain how well the leader reflects the leadership framework. Be sure to show how the leader does or does not demonstrate each of the five leadership practices and related commitments. Provide examples. Were the successes or failures identified above due to leader’s conformity or divergence from those leadership practices? Explain.
- What events influenced his or her leadership journey?
- What influence (positive and/or negative) has this leader had on his or her profession or academic field and the culture?
- Does this leader demonstrate good character? Is humility essential to his or her approach to leadership?
Finally, in a Reflection section of your report, explain what you learned from this person’s experience that can help you be a better leader. How has your view/definition of Christian leadership changed from the start of this course (re: introductory blog post)? How has this leader’s story contributed to that view? What insights do you have that you didn’t before—about yourself, your character (re: the Christian Character Index), your faith, the culture, and the world?
This book report should be approximately 2000 words in length, and include the following sections: (1) introduction, (2) brief overview of the leader/book, (3) main body (addressing questions), (4) reflection section, (5) conclusion, and (6) references (not included in word count). In APA format using this book for Steve Jobs:
Isaacson, W. (2011). Steve Jobs. New York, New York: Simon &
Schuster.

LEADERSHIP BOOK REPORT AND REFLECTION PAPER ON STEVE JOBS
Introduction
The book report is based on Steve Jobs who was quite a unique character and is the
subject of reference for many when it comes to management and leadership. Most of the people
with little or no experience in leadership mainly focus on his personality`s rough edges and fail
to see the bigger picture. His achievements and leadership accomplishments are overwhelming
and it is only logical to try and borrow everything possible from his way of doing things. Mainly,
the mindset of not being confined to the limited possibilities that reality offered combined with
his leadership skills are great combinations for a leader. It is out of this that we indulge in
expounding on Steve Jobs` leadership and learn the nitty gritty details that led to him excelling as
a leader.
Brief Overview of Steve Jobs
Steve Jobs is the founder of Apple and is responsible for the rise to power of this supercompany. He began his entrepreneurial journey of co-founding Apple from the garage his
parents had in the year 1976. He became ousted from his company in the year 1985 but came
back in 1997 to help it escape from dipping into bankruptcy. He made great accomplishments
with the company from that moment onwards and helped it to be established as the most valuable
company in the world by the time of his death in October 2011. He helped the company
revolutionize seven industries namely: Animated movies, music, phones, digital publishing,
retail stores, personal computing and also tablet computing (Dormehl, 2012). He is widely
remembered and commemorated as one of the greatest innovators in American and world
history.

How the role models in Steve Jobs` life influenced him.
Steve Jobs, being one of the greatest men to ever walk in Silicon Valley, seems like the
personality type who did not require role models in-order to excel in his exploits. However,
contrary to this, Steve Jobs had some people that he looked up to, (Dormehl, 2012), and below is
the main one that had a lot of impact in the life decisions and paths that Steve Jobs took.
1) Edwin Land
Edwin Land was the founder of the famous polaroid photograph with the title of co-founder
of Polaroid corporation being also under his name. Other than having a deep affinity to the
accomplishments of Edwin Land, Steve Jobs learnt a lot and borrowed heavily from the life and
works of Edwin land. To start with, Lands opted to drop out from his college program
completely and head off in pursuit of his dreams and vision. We see Steve Jobs taking a similar
trend which led him to also dropping out of Harvard and venture into the technology and
business world without turning back to the life that he had given up in college.
Jobs also borrowed into various aspects of company ownership and how to handle various
tasks in the company from Edwin Land. Similar to what Jobs did, Land had set the pace for Jobs
by building a company that was highly rated in Wall Street and also Main Street. When
marketing the products that his company had come up with, Steve Jobs is seen to have emulated
and improved the template by which Edwin Land used. This template entailed Edwin rolling out
the products that he was marketing in huge and enormous presentations. In the 1960 years, Land

began converting meetings with his shareholders into showcases that were different from
anything else during that time. The presentations of the products and services that the company
was planning to indulge in were organized into articulate art-directed showcases that even had
live music being played in-between the presentation segments. This was all done with Edwin
Land holding the new product by his hand while the details and deeper graphic inter-plays were
displayed on slide projections that were behind him. The exact same setting is evident in the
manner in which Steve Jobs introduced products in Apple which became one of his trademarks
in the technological world with many admiring the elegance and charisma conducted in his
