Psychology is the degree to which nature versus nurture shapes human behaviors and traits. How would you describe the interaction between genetic potential, environmental influences, and personal choice? Do you think biology is destiny. Why or not
Psycho dynamic: This area touches on
Freud, that our early experiences shape who we are in later life, which also
gives particular attention to how the subconscious can influence or even govern
our behavior, and that we develop defense mechanisms such as repression to deal
with experiences when we can’t cope .
Nature is really from a biological sense, but then again, evolutionary explanations
may fall in here too.
Nurture would consist of environmental (which would encompass behaviorism,
aspects of cognitive, psycho dynamic, developmental), basically, it is when your
behavior is shaped by events in your environment, it’s like growing up in a
deprived area vs. a rich area, your views of the world would be different,
imagine what contrasting views of the world a 18 year old Muslim from Saudi Arabia
would have compared to an 18 year old catholic American.
Currently, it is believed that genetics and environment each have a role to
play in human behavior. Humanistic would be more personal choice. In terms of
interaction, and generally speaking, imagine a middle class boy is born with
the IQ of 90, then his parents have the money to sent him to a private school,
and during this time he decides that he needs to get a good grade, the
environmental and personal choice get him a grade equivalent to that of a
person with an IQ of 105, really its bi-directional, one factor influences the
I do not think biology is destiny, there is simple too much interaction beyond
