At the beginning of the First World War, in 1914, America had a policy of neutrality and isolation that restricted it from interfering with the affairs of other states. Woodrow Wilson, the ruling president during that time knew better that the cause of the war was not black and white and therefore, he and his people did not wish to pick any sides involved in the war. The two reasons are primary to why The United States did not join the War until 1917. The American public opinion was also to avoid involvement in the war in fear of their cities getting bombed and their soldier sons dying in battlefields. America, however, continued to trade with both Britain and Germany during the World War until Germany started to sink American ships and there is when America declared war on Germany. The US also attempted severally to arbitrate the Allies and the Central Powers but failed. America's involvement in the war fastened its ending. This is because, with the fresh supplies of soldiers, food, and armor from America, the Allies were able to crush the Central Powers fast bringing the war to an end in about eighteen months since the United States joined. The war was fought in the progressive era when America valued expertise and efficiency very much. The federal government, therefore, established temporary agencies that provided about a million employees all focusing on the production of food and ammunitions to keep their soldiers at war well supplied. The US Food Administration launched campaigns to teach Americas to grow ‘victory gardens' and economize their food as well as managed food distribution and prices. The Committee of Public Information oversaw propaganda that supported the war against the Central Power. Woodrow Wilson was a key player in the establishment of the League of Nations that advocated for world peace. ...

immediate cause being the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of AustriaHungary. Gavrilo Princip a Serbian nationalist assassinated Franz together with his wife
in Sarajevo, Bosnia. This was done in protest of Austria-Hungary having control of
Bosnia. Serbia wanted to face out Austria-Hungar...
