I need help with common core integrated algebra

Ok so i cant figure this out to save my life, if someone could plz help me try to understand this that would b amazing hrre is the equation 

Calculate f(-4) for the function f(x=×2nd +4×_2

f(x) = x^2 + 4 x^-2

     = x^2 + 4/x^2   [note x^-2 is simply 1/ positive power)

f(-4) = (-4)^2 + 4/ (-4)^2

       =16 + 4/16

  =16 + 1/4

=16 1/4 or 16.25
