Description

INSTRUCTIONS:

Submit an annotated Bibliography on the topic of your Course Project. Be sure to include at least nine sources that have not previously used. The majority of your selections should be peer reviewed academic sources.

Conduct independent research and locate articles (the majority should be peer-reviewed) relevant to your chosen topic for the course project. Select sources that enable you to analyze your topic from these three vantage points:

  1. Sources that discuss key terms or concepts used in religious studies and how these key terms or concepts limit or enables the study of religion.
  2. Sources that describe characteristics and applications of religion.
  3. Sources that describe the function of religion in the lives of individuals.

Your annotated bibliography should do the following:

  • Summarize the source: What are the main arguments? What is the point of this book or article? What topics are covered? If someone asked what this article or book is about, what would you say? The length of your annotations will determine how detailed your summary is.
  • Assess the source: After summarizing a source, it is helpful to evaluate it. Is it a useful source? How does it compare with other sources in your bibliography? Is the information reliable? Is this source biased or objective? What is the goal of this source?
  • Reflect on the source: Once you have summarized and assessed a source, you need to ask how it fits into your research. Was this source helpful to you? How does it help you shape your argument? How can you use this source in your research project? Has it changed how you think about your topic?

Additional Instructions:

Please choose a topic for the annotated bibliography based on the information you see above. I will also submit an assignment for review, so that it will help you come up with a topic. Do not reuse the sources within the given assignment. Please use 9 new scholarly or peer reviewed sources.

Special Instructions:

Come up with a topic for the Annotated Bibliography and follow all the instructions accordingly. Be sure to base your topic from the given assignment below.

Running head: CREATE TOPIC 1 Religion, the Sacred, and Rituals Christianity entails a belief in a Supernatural God as the creator of the universe and the giver of life. According to Christians, God exists in three forms and which are God the father, God the son and God the Holy Spirit. Furthermore, this is the formation referred to as the holy trinity. Thus, Jesus Christ is the son of God, who was sent from the heavens to come and save the world which had fallen due to sin. This is one reason why the Christians hold him in high esteem because they believe that he saved mankind from the wrath of the creator. Moreover, Jesus, to Christians is merciful and is the link to the Father (God); hence, Jesus saved Christians and continues to be forgiving of their iniquities on a day to day basis. Thus, the manifestation of the mighty God to the earth was shown by the birth of his son. Due to this, Jesus remains as a powerful person to Christians because to them, he represents the kingdom of God by his death, resurrection and rise. Therefore, Jesus won the lost souls back to the father (Dunn, 2003). Nonetheless, Hinduism is known for the sanctification of various events and places such as the banana tree for the devotees who worship Lord Vishnu, as well as the Vermillion which is applied on the faces of married women who practice the religion. Consequently, the sanctification of river Ganges is one object which stands out among the Hindus because the river represents a lot of holy things in regards to the phenomenon. Accordingly, the many ways through which the river is used shows its importance to Hinduism, whereas it has been mentioned in the Vedas, the Puranas CREATE TOPIC regarding the Mahabharata as the daughter the god concerning the Himalaya Mountains. In addition, the way the river flows into the residents of the Hindus from the mountain is seen by the Hindus, as a way through which the mountain god sends his daughter to flow through the land to cleanse the people of their inequities and nourish their lives. This article gives a broad spectrum of the differences between Christianity and Buddhism
both being religions. It shows that Christians believe in a savior, Jesus Christ while Buddhist
don’t believe in a savior. There is also no recognition of a sin in Buddhism as compared to
Christianity. This article works for me since it puts one in a position to understand both religions
well.
