I agree with the statement that “slavery was not the primary cause of the civil war.” In fact, I
would place slavery under the economic factors which led to the civil war in America. Other
economic factors included fighting for land for production. The American Civil War, which was
an internal conflict between the South and the North. According to the whites of the South, slave
abolition would have ruined the economy of the South since they had invested a lot on slavery
for the production in their firms (Catton, Bruce & James, p.46). The Southerners were against the
North which supported the abolition of slavery in the US. Especially with the introduction of
new crops like cotton, which was good for export, the slave owners needed enough cheap labor
for their plantations...
