Introduction
By 1945 August, both America and Japan were already aware that Japan had lost World War II
to America. However, they both were unaware of when Japan would accept its defeat and let America
win the war. Japan was stuck between a split to either give in to defeat or allow America to win or keep
on fighting to the end. Unfortunately, Japan chose to keep on fighting America to the end. At this time,
the American soldiers as well as the civilians were all tired of the prolonged four period wars that had
left the country weary. The Americans wanted the war to end but the Japanese military wasn’t willing to
give in to defeat and wanted to keep on fighting. America forces that were located in Iwo Jima as well as
Okinawa kept on dropping bombs on Japanese cities but a Japanese military constituting of over two
million soldiers were located in their home islands were they prevented any attack or invasion from the
Americans (Davis, 2015). When President Harry S Truman received the news of the success of the
atomic bombing that had being ongoing for long, he was faced with numerous choices. This bomb had
being created to solely cause mass destruction. When Truman learnt about the success of the weapon, it
was his decision to decide whether to use it as a means to end the war. The atomic bomb used during
World War II caused lots of controversy and left many long terms effects because of the amount of
deaths and conflicts caused by it.
Basis of the Atomic bombing
The president was faced with four options that included: drop the bomb on a populated Japanese
city to demonstrate the bomb, drop it on an unpopulated island, proceed with conventional bombing on
Japanese cities, or prepare to invade Japan. The decision regarding the use of the atomic bomb was very
difficult for the president. Before the attack on Japan commenced, Japan was demanded to immediately
surrender to the Soviet Union without any conditions lest they suffer from total destruction. However,

Japan still held its stand and refused to surrender. The command of the Japanese military failed to oblige
to unconditional surrender but was indicated...
